Community Highlights: Meet Shivam Dhol Tasha Team Dallas, TX of Shivam Dhol Tasha Pathak

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shivam Dhol Tasha Team Dallas, TX

Hi Shivam Dhol Tasha team, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Shivam Dhol Tasha Pathak was established in 2014 at Dallas, TX. The instuments played originate from historic times, and used to play, to pump up energy in soldiers with the start, beginning and end of war every day.

The name Shivam comes from Shiva ( Creator of god particle) and Om (Sound of Universe). Shivam’s ‘vadak’ meaning individuals who play these instruments come from a diverse backgrounds who have been actively working on preserving this performing art here in the USA.

Today, Shivam’s performances, with the traditional dhol tasha have been an exciting event not in just Indian cultural celebrations but a major attraction on a global scale.
Our goal is to take these traditional instruments to a international level and cater to everyone in the community. We look forward to our jamming sessions with different cultures’ percussion instruments, in an idea of bringing people together.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
With the big sized drums that we play, we faced quite a few challenges.. starting with getting our equipment here in United States by shipment, finding right set of committed people and train them to do what we do as a group. It gets difficult to find the right practice venue with good acoustics, To continue the peaceful atmosphere in the community, sometimes we need to work with local law enforcement to keep noise levels in control and shorten our performance if needed.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We started with a mission to give by the best possible experience to our audience. We work hard as a team, practice every Sunday as a group, and sometimes we play in extreme texas heat or cold temperatures. We love what we do to take our Indian culture to a global level and embrace it with other community organizations. The joy and happiness of the audience keeps us going. We have done performances on multiple platforms, we got invited to play for POTUS in Washington DC, we played for Dallas Stars and Dallas Mavericks in their halftime performance, We take pride in playing for various music artists around the world like Ajay Atul, Art forms like Japanese Daiko, African Djmbe and one of the best till date, Chicago Bulls’ Pack Drumline in the ICC Opening ceremony for Cricket T20 World cup.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
All of us at Shivam are doing this as part of volunteering and giving something back to the community. We have people from different age groups and diverse backgrounds. We are grateful towards the North Dallas Community and our fans worldwide.
