Community Highlights: Meet Shruti Sheladia of Bollywood Dance Central

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shruti Sheladia.

Shruti Sheladia

Hi Shruti, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We started our studio in 2017 in Austin, Texas, and have since expanded to Dallas, Houston, San Francisco, and Oakland with the goal of bringing higher caliber South Asian dance forms to local communities. Over the last 7 years, we have built an amazing community of parents, students, and BDC instructors.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Covid was definitely a challenge for us. Being unable to conduct our in-studio classes, we had to change our entire business model and learn to operate online. Transitioning after COVID-19 back in person was also difficult; many students decided to move back in person, and others chose to stay online. We currently host both formats.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Bollywood Dance Central?
Bollywood Dance Central specializes in South Asian art forms such as Bollywood, Bhangra, Raas, and Semi Classical. The rigor we instill in our academy sets us apart from other academies. Our students learn to work towards a national platform performance opportunity and build their skill.

I am most proud of how many students resonate with our mission and strive to become a better dancer.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love how open to diversity Dallas is. There is a strong Indian community here that we are very lucky to be a part of.

What I like the least is how far everything can be haha

Pricing:

  • $98 per month
  • $28 trial class
