Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonji Gillabrothar.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m Sonji Gillabrothar, founder of Exhale Cleaning. Cleaning runs in my family, and I take pride in carrying that tradition forward. After spending over 20 years in banking, I followed my passion and built Exhale Cleaning to deliver five-star care for homes and businesses. For me, it’s not just about spotless spaces—it’s about creating comfort and peace of mind for every client.”
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
“It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Transitioning from over two decades in the corporate world into entrepreneurship came with its share of challenges. At first, I had to adjust to wearing many hats—building a business from the ground up meant learning everything from operations to marketing while still staying true to my passion for cleaning. There were moments of doubt and times when resources felt stretched thin, but each obstacle taught me something valuable. What kept me going was my commitment to quality and the belief that creating Exhale Cleaning was more than just starting a business—it was honoring my family’s legacy and providing clients with a service they could truly rely on. Those struggles shaped me into a stronger, more determined leader, and they continue to fuel the pride I take in every space we transform.”
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Exhale Cleaners?
Exhale Cleaning is more than just a cleaning company—it’s a passion project rooted in my family’s tradition of care and excellence. We specialize in gyms, churches, and office spaces, and what sets us apart is our commitment to five-star quality in every detail. Whether it’s a busy fitness center, a sacred space, or a professional office, our team is trained to deliver spotless results with efficiency and respect.
What I’m most proud of brand-wise is the trust we’ve built with our clients. We don’t just clean—we create environments where people can feel comfortable, focused, and at peace. Our motto is simple: Be the office hero—hire us. When you bring Exhale Cleaning in, you’re not just getting a service, you’re giving your team and community the gift of a fresh, welcoming space.”
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice for anyone just starting out is to embrace patience and persistence. When I left the corporate world to build Exhale Cleaning, I quickly realized that entrepreneurship doesn’t come with a manual—you learn as you go. I wish I had known earlier that it’s okay to not have everything figured out right away. The important thing is to stay consistent, trust your vision, and be willing to adapt when challenges arise. Surround yourself with people who support your growth, and don’t be afraid to ask for help or invest in learning. Every obstacle is an opportunity to sharpen your skills and strengthen your business. Most of all, remember why you started—your passion will carry you through the tough days.
