Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Ritter.
Hi Stacey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2016, I became a Birth and Postpartum Doula after the birth of my son—a birth that unfolded in no way according to plan. Just before I was wheeled back for my c-section, God made it clear: this is what you are called to do, to be the calm in the vulnerable space for women and families. That moment became the seed of Little Lilacs Birth Services. In fact, the lilac itself is a symbol of first love, and that is true for every family we serve—whether they are welcoming their first child or their sixth they are a first love.
The early years of Little Lilacs was included learning, growth, and the realization that birth work shouldn’t be carried out alone. In 2018, that calling grew into something greater as other amazing doulas joined Little Lilacs. Since then, our growth has shaped the incredible team we have today. Looking ahead, we are thrilled to celebrate ten years in 2026 of walking alongside families with compassion, strength, and faith.
Today, my role has expanded beyond serving families directly to also supporting and equipping doulas. I have the privilege of walking along-side them as they connect with clients and deliver professional, seamless care. My passion runs deeper than birth and postpartum support alone, as I am equally committed to ensuring birth work is sustainable, creating a true career path for those who step into this sacred calling.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. In time, as a doula we are reminded that we are still human—we stumble, face challenges, but most importantly grow through them. For me personally, an unexpected surgery became the turning point. It forced me to recognize how essential it is for families to have a team of support, not just one individual carrying the weight. That realization shaped the foundation of Little Lilacs and our team-based model of care.
Another struggle has been learning the importance of boundaries. Birth work is sacred, but it is also heavy. Without creating space for ourselves, it’s easy to slip into burnout, and the mental and emotional toll can be significant. Over time, I’ve seen how prioritizing boundaries and self-care not only protects doulas but ultimately strengthens the care we provide to families.
We’ve been impressed with Little Lilacs Birth Services, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Birth and Postpartum Doulas have existed for generations, long before the title was ever formalized. Historically, birth and postpartum support was a community event—women supporting women through one of life’s most vulnerable transitions. Today, because of shifts in our society and family structures, that natural support system has diminished. It’s common for new couples to move away from family and begin their journey without that built-in community. That’s where we step in—we are the bridge that continues this care.
Birth support can be summed up in three core areas: physical, emotional, and informational. But in reality, the role of a doula extends far beyond that. Every birth is unique, so our care is always individualized. In the postpartum season, we focus on nurturing the mother, baby, and family so they can bond, recover, and be nourished.
What consistently sets us apart, according to feedback we’ve received over the years, is our professionalism and the seamlessness of our care—starting from the very first moment families visit our website. One of my proudest moments brand-wise was when other doulas sought us out to join Little Lilacs, drawn to our foundation, our team-based model, and our emphasis on compassionate, family-centered care.
At our core, we are a team of doulas who care deeply about the work we do. That care shines through in every detail. We believe every woman deserves to be supported according to her unique needs, and it is an honor every time we are chosen to walk alongside her and the families in this sacred space.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is of dressing up in a beautiful, flower-sequined dress, the kind meant only for special occasions. I’d slip on those shiny dress shoes and head straight into our big backyard. That yard felt endless to me, full of trees and opportunities for adventure. I would climb as high as I could into the branches of a tree, going up until I could go no further. Each time trying to get too new heights. But on my way back down, without fail, my dress would get snagged. As I climbed down, the higher the dress rode up, caught in the branches above, until it was tangled over my head. Soon, I’d be stuck, unable to see, unable to move, and screaming for dear life. Because at five-years-old, it feels as though your life is literally dangling by a thread. Every time, without fail, my father would come to my rescue, pulling me out of the branches and setting me safely on the ground again.
