Today we’d like to introduce you to Susie Burleson.
Hi Susie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After graduating from John Brown University in 2015 with a degree in photography, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery and personal development. I worked for a variety of employers, each offering unique opportunities for growth and learning about the needs of different industries and businesses.
In 2020, I moved to Texas with the goal of becoming a freelance photographer and videographer. The pandemic presented challenges, but also opportunities for change and reinvention. I found myself at a small off-roading company, where I was given the chance to expand my skills and knowledge.
There I not only was able to create the photos and videos I wanted, but I also leveled up and was immersed in the world of digital marketing. I worked my way up to become the marketing manager and was able to build out the department. This experience allowed me to hone my ability to create high-quality content that truly connects with and effectively communicates the needs of my clients.
In the summer of 2022, I made the bold decision to leave my position as marketing manager and fully embrace the freelance lifestyle. It was a new step in the adventure of life and it’s been challenging and so very rewarding.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As the old saying goes, smooth seas don’t make for skilled sailors. And that sentiment couldn’t ring more true for my own personal story.
For years, I struggled with the belief that taking risks was worth it. I always kept a foot in the door of full-time employment, while also working freelance gigs on the side during my free time. But deep down, I knew that I was meant for more.
Despite my doubts and fears, I decided to take the leap and go full-time freelance. And in the 8 short months, since I made that decision, I’ve been able to help many businesses and individuals achieve their goals through my work.
I’ve come to realize that setbacks and failures are simply opportunities to learn and grow. And while there have been times when I’ve wanted to give up, I remind myself of the incredible opportunities available to me in the country I live in. With that mindset, I know that nothing can stand in my way.

What are your plans for the future?
The business is growing and we have hopes of building a film studio within the next 12-18 months. The goal would be to help provide a high-quality, reliable studio for small businesses and agencies to create consistent content for local businesses.
On a personal note, this year I will be traveling overseas to photograph a wedding in Scotland, then travel to capture additional footage of the cities in Italy and a few in Switzerland. First time out of the country so I am BEYOND excited!
