Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Johnson.
Tamara, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started after graduating from school at the United Way, working in the communication department. This department was responsible for organizing volunteers to speak at various businesses throughout Michigan to encourage employees to donate and give to United Way for the support of non-profit organizations throughout Michigan. We also provided packets for volunteers that included presentation materials and donation forms. This began my passion for the nonprofit world. I later moved on to the Michigan Cancer Foundation – again another nonprofit and then the Detroit Urban League. The Urban League is where I received most of my non-profit experience in the areas of grant writing, board training, and development, outreach program design, and developing needs assessments. This led to the success of my recent book that I wrote, “Social Blueprint – 7 Frameworks to Developing a Non-Profit Organization”. I registered my new business, “Business Global Network” in October 2021 to start my new career and business opportunity. But unfortunately – I was diagnosed with heart disease that needed Open Heart Surgery. Although there was a delay; soon after recovery, I packed all my things and moved to Dallas, Texas in May 2022 where I am now Author, Business Owner, Consultant, and Contractor.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
My obstacle was surgery. Soon after flying down to Dallas and setting up business in October 2021 – preparing to make a transition in November 2021 – I was swissed into emergency surgery and underwent triple bypass open heart surgery. You could only imagine the fear I experienced after quitting my Supervisor Job in a large hospital in Michigan and jumping into the deep to begin a new chapter in my life only to be left with regrets of quitting my Job so prematurely. I went through recovery from November 2021 – April 2022 – when I completed my last day of physical therapy and was told I can travel and do other things without limitations. I knew it was time to leave. That’s why I stated before, I was delayed, but was never in denial of my goals that awaited me in Dallas, Texas. In May of 2022, I packed up my belongings and left for Dallas Texas. Even after moving to Dallas, it was a new start, a new beginning, and now I’m challenged to make new friends, develop new business relationships, and find places and people to connect and network with. I’m still a work in progress, but I have no regrets.
As you know, we’re big fans of Business Global Network. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
BGN is a consultant and administrative management company that provides infrastructure and organizational development to new start-up businesses (Both for-profit and non-profit) and struggling and failing businesses to set a structure that will help them thrive and succeed. Most businesses fail because they fail to plan appropriately, research, and set an organizational infrastructure in place to assist with the day-to-day management of their business.
Although I have provided a brief description of the business I developed, my passion for what I am most proud of is my role as Book Author of “Social Blueprint – 7 Frameworks to Developing a World-Class Non-Profit Organization”. Inside this book are step-by-step guidelines for Understanding the Vision/Passion, building an effective Volunteer-base, developing your Team (The board), Creating award-winning Program Designs, developing an effective Needs Assessment/Program Statement, and Legalizing your Non-Profit.
What do you think about happiness?
Just being able to set my own schedule, manage my own company, and provide excellent service to my customers. Seeing others thrive and succeed is something that has always been a passion and means of influencing others. I have assisted with developing many individuals and small business owners.
