Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya Watkins.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After college I worked for large corporations and decided I wanted to go back home and start my own company in Real Estate called Promise Realty. After a few years I wanted to do something that would be something to help the community in my home town and create the same feel I grew up with so I opened a popcorn shop, then added Ice Cream, specialty soda’s, fudge, gifts and then adding checkers, games and so much more. I love seeing families get off their phones, sit down with their kids and enjoy a game and a treat. My kids and I are all hunters and so we decided what better than to add a gun shop to get more guys in the shop and before you know it they are enjoying everything in the shop and buying a guns and knives with their wives and kids. That is what I love about East Texas, we love our God, our Country and our home town! I am passionate about the boards I reside on, like Lions Club, Children’s Advocacy Center and woman’s League, they all help make this world a better place! I just want families to take time out to play a few games, Talk about the old days with grandparents and friends and how God has changed our lives for the better and…of course football!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It is difficult starting a business with banks not willing to loan small businesses funds being a single woman never having a business and all the scams are everywhere. So I saved and paid everything as I went. But I made it!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Gourmet popcorn and soda shop. Our popcorn is amazing and comes in lots of original flavors, homemade fudge, roasted pecans, ice cream. Our shops are all about families and wonderful treats to enjoy all the board games. Our brand is special because it represents the best of our Southern Roots!
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My Love for Jesus! Love for people and to make our world a better place.
