Community Highlights: Meet Taylor Dean of Tart By Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Dean.

Hi Taylor, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Tart by Taylor started as a little quarantine craft in my parents’ kitchen that quickly turned into something so much bigger. I made my first coaster using real pills, which is still my favorite design to this day. I posted it online, and before I knew it, people were asking to buy them. What started as a one woman show has grown into a full team of amazing women who design, manufacture, and ship everything from our Dallas headquarters.

Today, Tart by Taylor is sold in thousands of stores across the country and known for bold, colorful acrylic decor that is anything but boring. It has been a wild ride filled with lots of learning, late nights, and laughs, but I would not trade a second of it. At the heart of it all, I love creating pieces that make people smile and bring a little fun into their homes.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road, but that’s what has made the journey so special. When I started Tart by Taylor, I had no background in manufacturing or logistics, so there was a lot of trial and error in figuring out how to bring my ideas to life. From sourcing materials and finding reliable partners to learning how to manage inventory, pricing, and shipping, every stage came with new challenges.

There were plenty of sleepless nights, long workdays, and moments where I felt completely in over my head. But each challenge taught me something valuable and pushed me to grow. I learned to ask questions, trust my instincts, and surround myself with a great team. Looking back, those early struggles were what shaped the business into what it is today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Tart By Taylor?
Tart by Taylor is a women owned acrylic home decor brand based in Dallas, Texas. We design and handcraft bold, colorful pieces that bring personality and fun into every space. Our products include everything from coasters and trays to picture frames, ornaments, puzzles, and match strikers, all made with our signature playful twist.

We are known for our high quality materials, quick shipping, and designs that spark joy. Every piece is created with the goal of making everyday moments a little more beautiful and a lot more fun.

What truly sets us apart is our personality. We do not take life too seriously, and we believe your decor should reflect that. Each piece tells a story, whether it is our original pill coaster that started it all or a new collaboration with an artist we love.

Brand wise, I am most proud that we have stayed true to our roots. We started as a small idea in my parents’ kitchen, and now our products are sold in thousands of stores nationwide, but the heart of Tart by Taylor has not changed. We are still all about color, creativity, and creating products that make people smile.

I want readers to know that when they buy from Tart by Taylor, they are supporting a small business that values creativity, community, and a good dose of fun. We are here to boycott the boring and fill your home with pieces that feel as vibrant as you do.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I have always believed that growth comes from taking risks. Starting Tart by Taylor was a huge leap of faith. I had no background in manufacturing, design, or business. I just had an idea, a creative spark, and a whole lot of determination. Quitting my full time job to pursue this dream was terrifying at the time, but it turned out to be the best decision I ever made.

Since then, risk has become part of how I operate. Whether it is launching a new product line, investing in equipment, or opening our first storefront, every big step has required trusting my gut. I do not think of risk as something to fear. To me, it is about betting on yourself, believing in your vision, and being willing to learn from whatever happens next.

Not every risk works out perfectly, but each one brings growth and clarity. I have learned that taking a chance, even when it feels scary, often leads to the most rewarding moments in business and in life.
