Community Highlights: Meet Tiffany McDonald of B22 Films

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany McDonald.

Hi Tiffany, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Bred, Born and raised Texan! I grew up in Allen, attended college at TJC in Tyler. Married young, started a family young, divorced middle-aged, remarried in 2018 to Brett and landed in Fort Worth, Tx. I started out as an actress at 25. Signed with a few agents before my final destination, The Campbell Agency. “Retired” in 2016 and started B22 Films in 2017. We’re still going strong, which I thank God for every day.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has it been a smooth road? Fortunately for business, it has. (And yes, even during Covid) But as with any business, there is always “drama,” I like to call it, on every production. I deal with whatever is thrown my way the day I step on set and occasionally on the postproduction side, but it’s rare. Brett does an amazing job in the post department! I can say we always work with the same people on the crew side, and we use a handful of cast over and over too. You have to love working and putting trust in good people on both sides of the camera. Now for challenges… scripts with 80 pages, minimal locations, a cast under 10ppl.

Working within a small budget yet taking care of everyone involved.

Set locations. Food. Working with animals. Working with actors, you’ve never worked with before.

Travel accommodations. Replacing talent last minute. Agents. Scheduling. Sag. Costumes. You name it; this business is always a challenge. Not to mention that Brett and I run The Longhorn Film Festival, AND I have another job outside of the film stuff. Brett also writes and directs 90% of all our features and meets every deadline. He does what I hate, and I do what he hates. We make for a pretty good balance!

We’ve been impressed with B22 Films, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
B22 Films is a privately owned independent film production company based in Fort Worth, Tx. owned by me. We specialize in independent filmmaking and is also the parent company of B22 casting and our newly developed production company, SandDollar Pictures. If your script is fully funded, we can help you. From casting to postproduction, trailers, posters and deliverables.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
In this business, I think it’s all about who you know and what you’ve learned. And yes, LUCK. Failure in something makes you better. Failure helps you know what NOT to do next time. And it’s ok to fail. Keep going, keep getting knocked down, and keep rising to the next occasion. We have people that hate us. It’s a constant game of others wanting you to fail at something, and guess what, we have people from around the world who love our product, and we are very grateful and thankful for the opportunity to keep doing what we love to do. Luck in life is nonexistent, even if you win the lottery or book a dream role. There’s always some kind of drama attached to everything you do. In reality, applying yourself in order to get what you want out of life, your family, and your business is full circle. It’s all about the work you put in. So maybe a tad bit of luck? You gotta work for it!
