Today we’d like to introduce you to Traelon Genie Johnson.
Hi Traelon Genie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I go by The Genie and “ My clients wish is my command” I describe myself as a therapist with a pair of clippers I am 24 years old from NorthDallas Tx born and raised I went to lakehighlands high-school and played footballI. I graduated in 2019 gand started out cutting hair when I enrolled in college to play football at Wayland baptist University in West Texas mostlyout of boredom and trying to save money. After picking up the clippers it just felt natural to me and I never stopped ever since. After football didn’t work out I enrolled in Texas Barber College and my. Journery started.Through out the years I started to improve and gain clientele that has been with me for over 6 years now. Things didn’t start out easy and my journey as a young entrepuner was not the easiest my journy has truly been a marathon. And ive learned that by stay consistent and doing good business in terms of appealing to your clients. Making sure you do your best work consistently. Taking my time and making my clients feel appreciated. I have created alot of great relationships with people who want to see me prosper. My clientel varries all races and religions and I am told I do a great job at making everyone feel comfortable. And giving the specific desired look consistently and not rushing. Formerly located in mesquite I am now in Dallas ( trinity groves) as I continue to give great cuts and grant wishes.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey been a marathon and every part of it is great because in the end you learn new things. Starting when the barber industry is completely changing ive seen things do a 360 from when I was a kid going to the barbershop.
Barbershops aren’t like they used to be in terms of walk ins so you have to do a lot of markerting trial and error to see what works for you. Also dealing with new people isn’t always easy so professionalism is very important. Ive learned to not take any clients for granted because they could not return. Life will get in the way but you have to leave that at the door to be the best you to do your best work.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Genies Chair ?
I specialize in giving the desired look to my clients that they wish for. I am a barber things that set me apart would be my skill for detail , the ammount of informantion i provide you with on your hair for the best desired look. And i consider myself to be a therapist getting a haircut is therapituc from the conversation , to the chair , to feeling of relief you feel after and there is no chair like the genie’s chair. I also am starting a non profit and am very active in giving to the community. This past year i did a backpack/ school supply drive and gave out haircuts for lakeview middle school in the colony. I love being able to help people in my metroplex with things they need and being there for support. That would be my most proud moment. As well as my anual client appreciation bbq i host ( barber-q) my services are more than you just spending your money. You recive a great haircut and experience in total.
