Today, we’d like to introduce you to Trina Smith.
Trina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello, my name is Trina Smith, and I was born and raised in Fort Worth, TX. When I was five years old, my life changed, and I began to walk in my purpose.
My mom, whom I affectionately call “Big Mama,” would sit me on a chair and teach me about spices and measurements for her amazing dishes. Little did I know that these intimate moments were preparing me for my purpose: cooking! The seed planted in me at a young age was nurtured by God, allowing it to flourish as I grew into adulthood.
Who is Trina Smith? I am a woman of God, a wife, and a mother of eight. I co-founded VOH Ministries, homeschooled my son, and am the owner of Inspired Treats by Trina. Some of you might wonder how I manage all these roles—it’s through God’s grace! I’ve worked in the corporate world and in ministry, often giving my all without always feeling appreciated. At the end of 2019, despite my fears and uncertainty, I told the Lord I would start my own business.
Trusting in God, I launched my business just before the Covid pandemic hit. I wondered how it would all work out, but God provided. He sent many people my way, and the orders began to flow continuously.
Now, as I walk in my purpose, I have not only started my business, Inspired Treats by Trina, but I am also the founder of the mentorship program Fearless Girls Rock and the founder of Women of Greatness. I have co-authored a book titled “Power Moms” and have been honored with the Journey of a Young Lady Bridge Award.
With all these accomplishments, I eagerly anticipate what the future holds for me next!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Inspired Treats by Trina almost didn’t happen. Instead of allowing fear to grip me, I chose to defeat fear by getting up and putting action to my faith! I could have chosen every excuse not to pursue my dreams. Instead, I chose to step out and began to walk by faith and not by sight.
I made my fliers and promoted them on social media and word of mouth, and days later, orders began to come in. I have to say this journey has not been easy. However, I am so excited that I took the risk and moved forward. I wanted to give up several times and asked myself, “What are you doing?”This will never work.” I tried to throw in the towel. However, I have an amazing husband (Willie Smith, Jr.) who would not let me give up.
Continue to pursue, preserve, and reach for all right in front of you and move forward. It doesn’t matter if it’s not working in your favor, or if you don’t have the funds to start the business, have the support of others, or even if you’re trying to talk yourself out of it, ignore all excuses and go after all that God has for you!
You have to because you pursuing after yours, help someone else to go after theirs! You Got This!!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
The name came from the many moments I have stood in my kitchen asking God for Creative dishes. I sell healthy dishes and a little not-so-healthy; I specialize in keto and healthy 500-calorie meal preps. I create some amazing desserts, from homemade tea cakes to stuffed Oreo chocolate chip cookies.
I have several clients that have special dietary needs. These same clients have said to me that when eating my food, they don’t have to take their medication. I have some clients who have stated that my food has helped them with their weight management. To say the least, I work with my clients to customize their nutritional needs!
What sets me apart from others is (ME) ok, my creativity to create different dishes. I do not cook with salt, and my customers can not tell. Not only do I create, but God gives me creativity when I stand in my kitchen. Every time I walk into my kitchen I ask the Lord to give me new ideas, He does it every time!
What I’m most proud of is that I finally got up and stopped listening to the negative voices outside and inside of me. Making that move put me on this path of success!
Any big plans?
My plans for Inspired Treats by Trina include adding a delivery service and offering weekly specials. I also aim to expand into a storefront location or a food truck.
