Today we’d like to introduce you to Wemi Agbor.
Wemi, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Planning has always been a natural part of who I am. Even in college, I was the person friends and classmates instinctively turned to whenever something needed to be coordinated, organized, or brought together seamlessly. Whether it was an event, a group project, or a special activity, I found genuine joy in creating structure, managing details, and ensuring everything flowed beautifully.
That innate passion followed me beyond college and truly came to life in 2016, when I planned my own wedding. Every detail, from concept to execution, was thoughtfully curated with love and intention. On the day itself, I was overwhelmed by the response from our guests. Many approached me to ask who had planned the wedding, and when I told them it was me, their reactions were a mix of surprise and admiration. Those moments planted a quiet seed, one that would soon grow into something much bigger.
Two years later, that seed blossomed. A close friend entrusted me with planning his wedding for over 600 guests. It was a defining moment. The scale, the responsibility, and the joy of seeing everything come together confirmed what I had always felt deep down. That experience marked the official birth of WIMA Events.
Since then, WIMA Events has grown into a brand rooted in creativity, excellence, and heartfelt service. We have had the privilege of planning and executing weddings, birthdays, and milestone celebrations, each one uniquely tailored to reflect our clients’ stories and visions. Our greatest reward is seeing the joy on our clients’ faces and knowing that we’ve helped create memories that will last a lifetime.
At WIMA Events, we believe every celebration deserves to feel intentional, beautiful, and unforgettable. What began as a natural gift has evolved into a purposeful business, one that continues to bring people together through thoughtfully designed experiences and meaningful moments.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building WIMA Events has been a journey filled with growth, resilience, and invaluable lessons, but it has certainly not been without its challenges. Like many entrepreneurial paths, mine has come with seasons of uncertainty that tested my faith, confidence, and perseverance. Through every high and low, my faith in God and the unwavering support of my family have been my greatest sources of strength and motivation.
One of the most significant challenges I faced was relocating from the New Jersey area to Dallas during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, WIMA Events had already established a strong foundation on the East Coast, complete with trusted vendor relationships, a loyal client base, and consistent referrals. Moving meant leaving behind that familiarity and essentially starting over in a brand new market. Navigating this transition during such an uncertain global period only intensified the difficulty.
At the same time, the event industry was experiencing an unprecedented slowdown. For nearly a year and a half, business was significantly reduced and, at times, almost nonexistent due to pandemic related restrictions and uncertainty. Planning celebrations in an ever changing environment required patience, adaptability, and resilience, especially when the future of the industry felt unclear.
Adding to these professional challenges was a deeply personal and transformative life change of becoming a mother. Welcoming a baby during this already demanding season required me to balance entrepreneurship with motherhood, often stretching me in ways I had never experienced before. Learning how to nurture a growing business while caring for a newborn tested my time management, emotional strength, and endurance, but it also gave me a renewed sense of purpose and perspective.
As the industry began to stabilize, new challenges emerged. Economic fluctuations have influenced how couples and celebrants plan their events, with many opting for day-of coordination services rather than full-service planning. This shift has required adaptability and a reevaluation of how we serve our clients while continuing to deliver the level of excellence WIMA Events is known for.
Despite these obstacles, I remain incredibly grateful. The encouragement and support from my family, the dedication of my WIMA Events team members, the collaboration of fellow vendors, and the loyalty of clients who continue to refer our services have carried me through the most challenging moments. Without this community, the struggles would have felt overwhelming. Instead, they became opportunities for growth, and a deeper appreciation for the journey I am on.
We’ve been impressed with WIMA Events & Co., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
My faith in God is a central part of who I am and it deeply influences how I approach both life and business. I make it a priority to begin each day grounded in the Word by spending time in the YouVersion Bible app, where I follow a daily Bible plan and reflect on the verse of the day. I also read the RCCG Open Heavens daily devotional. Starting my mornings this way brings clarity, peace, and a sense of readiness to take on whatever the day may bring.
Professionally, I am intentional about continuous learning and staying inspired. I regularly listen to industry-focused podcasts such as Wedding Planning Podcast, Wedded: The Wedding Planner Podcast, and Wedding Planner Society: Industry Expert Insights; all of which provide valuable perspectives on both the creative and business sides of event planning. In addition, I follow a variety of wedding and event planning pages on social media to stay current with trends and discover fresh ideas that my clients may not have considered. This combination of faith, education, and inspiration allows me to serve my clients with purpose, creativity, and excellence.
