Community Highlights: Meet Whitney Karpoff Maverick Hale of Painted Manes Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Karpoff Maverick Hale.

Hi Whitney Karpoff, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Painted Manes Salon was born out of a dream between two passionate besties and stylists (Whitney Karpoff && Mav Hale) who wanted more than just a salon — we wanted a sanctuary for creativity, community, and bold self-expression. After years behind the chair in traditional salon settings, we realized we craved a space that felt like us — playful, professional, and full of heart (and a lot of color 💖🌈).
So in 2023, we took the leap and opened Painted Manes Salon. From day one, we’ve poured our hearts into building something different — a space where stylists can thrive independently while still feeling deeply supported, and where every guest feels like they’ve stepped into their own dream world. It hasn’t always been easy (hello, small biz rollercoaster ), but every lesson and late night has led us here — more aligned, more inspired, and more excited for what’s next.

Painted Manes is more than a salon. It’s our love letter to the beauty industry and the community we’re so lucky to be a part of.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road — but we wouldn’t trade it for anything. Starting a business from scratch comes with growing pains. We’ve had to learn how to set boundaries, navigate burnout, and wear all the hats — from stylist to marketing manager to plumber (seriously).

One of the hardest parts has been getting our name out there. We poured so much into creating a beautiful, welcoming space, but attracting the right stylists to join us has taken time, patience, and a whole lot of trusting the process! Building a brand and a team from the ground up isn’t easy — but we know the right people are coming.

There were moments we questioned if we were doing it right, or if we were even cut out for this. But every challenge pushed us to grow — not just as business owners, but as people. We’ve had to dig deep, trust ourselves, and keep showing up with heart. And now? We’re stronger, more grounded, and more in love with our vision than ever.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Painted Manes Salon ?
Painted Manes is more than just a salon — it’s a creative sanctuary. We specialize in extensions, lived-in color, blonding, and vibrant, dimensional hair that lets our guests feel fully themselves. But what truly sets us apart is the energy. From the moment you walk in, you feel the intention. We’ve curated a space that feels fun, safe, inspiring, and a little magical — where both clients and stylists are celebrated for who they are.

We believe in independence without isolation. Our salon is booth rental, but with a strong sense of community. We support our stylists in building their dream careers, while giving them the freedom to express themselves and grow at their own pace.

Brand-wise, we’re most proud of the environment we’ve created — it’s bright, bold, and welcoming. Think Malibu Barbie Dream Salon. We take our craft seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously.

What we want readers to know is this: Painted Manes is for the dreamers, the creatives, and the ones who are ready to step into their light — whether that’s behind the chair or in it.

What does success mean to you?
To us, success isn’t just about numbers or trends — it’s about impact.

Success is knowing we poured our whole hearts into this. It’s creating a space where every guest feels seen, celebrated, and genuinely cared for. It’s watching stylists step into their power, build the careers they dreamed of, and feel supported every step of the way.

If someone walks out of our salon feeling more like themselves — more confident, more empowered — that’s success. And if the people who work with us feel safe, inspired, and at home in their craft — that’s everything.
