Today we’d like to introduce you to Yoshika Green.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story is that I started working when I was 20, as soon as I got out of college. I was a teacher for 13 years then went into educational business and worked with companies such as Scholastic. From there I worked 10 years in the non-profit sector in program start-ups, program director, and special events. Now I’m working for myself as the owner of Yoshika Green Consulting LLC, a boutique writing firm where my team and I write, edit, and consult those that want to make 6-figures from their hobby. My hobby, my gift all along was and is writing (I used to write grants for fun when I was a teacher and I would win all of them so I started teaching others how to do the same). I wasn’t paying attention to see that writing was what I could be doing to make way more money than I was in a 9-5 setting.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road but it has been a good one, a meaningful road, a profitable one too. My journey has taught me so much that I could not have learned otherwise. The struggles include how to grow a sustainable business and pivot during a pandemic. I’ve also experienced the hardships that come with working for yourself, like making big girl business decisions. The struggles were present from the beginning when I wasn’t sure if this was the path to take, but I leaped anyway and it’s been a blessing. Over time the struggles change and growth happens every step of the way if you’re paying attention and adjusting when necessary.
We’ve been impressed with Yoshika Green Consulting LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Yoshika Green Consulting LLC is a boutique writing firm that caters to business owners and companies that want to enhance their message with the right writing. We specialize in words, creating them, and selling them. We write, edit, and consult in this space, as well as on how to do what we’re doing, how to start getting paid for something you’re already great at. We specialize in editing, ghostwriting, grant writing, content creation, and copywriting. I’m most proud of making over 6-figures in two years from startup and because we’re a service-based business, we were never in the red. I’m also very proud of the success our brand has seen, we’ve worked with some of the biggest names in business like Chalene Johnson and Monifa Coffee. I want readers to know that if they need help with words, we’ve got that covered because once you master words, you can write and do anything with them, the sky is truly limitless with opportunities for writers. I also want readers to know that if they need help launching their talent for profits, we’ve got them covered. And lastly, I want readers to know that this is the time in life where you can grow so many different things, rapidly if you just stick to it.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
When it comes to risks, I say take as many as you can. You can always grow times 100 and recover from most of the risks that don’t work out (I’m not talking about jumping out of planes, I’m talking about when it comes to business and pursuing your dreams). One recent risk I’ve taken included moving from my home state of Florida to pursue my business goals (in my other business in the health and wellness space). The other risk was starting my current business. These risks were made possible because once upon a time, I didn’t take a risk in my twenties when given the opportunity to move for work to NYC. Fear held me back and when I grew to understand after the life-altering experience of losing a parent, I promised myself that I would live life fully, out loud, and not ever skip out on making the risky move. I promised myself that I would seize the rest of my days in this life since I fought off suicide and depression to be here. I called fear out on being a liar and told myself the truth that I could always change my mind and redo a misstep, if necessary but I was not going to not take the risky step, ever again.
