Conversations with the Inspiring Amanda Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Davis.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Amanda. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Ever since I was a young girl, I have loved capturing memories in an image. I would make sure my camera was with me during my travels and family events. My sisters and I would set up the self-timer and take lots of photos that way too! Looking back, I am so glad I have those fun, silly, priceless photos during those seasons of life. After I had my second son, I was inspired by my newborn photos and wanted to upgrade my camera and lens. I mentored with photographers and took online classes. I opened up Amanda Davis Photography in May of 2016. It has been such a blessing to me and my family. I have the best clients who become friends and I am so thankful for all of their referrals and support! I am so passionate about my job to deliver timeless images of special memories during every season of life.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I started my business not knowing what type of road I would travel down. I would often pray, “God, please lead me to a part-time job after Luke is born” “How am I going to get clients?” I felt a peace that only God could give when opening up my photography business. I am normally scared of failure and I was nervous, but I knew that my passion for capturing families, seniors, maternity, and newborns would be worth my time and investment. It brings me so much joy to be behind the camera capturing real emotions, real people, and real stories. What a job. I am so glad I didn’t let the “what ifs” or “fear of unknown” stop me from pursuing my dream job.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I specialize in family, children milestones, maternity, newborn, and senior portrait sessions. I love to capture emotions and create moments for my clients. I am a mix of posed and candid and my style is bright and airy. I love the good eye contact image and I equally love the images of a connection between a mother with her children that aren’t posed but come from the heart. I love not only shooting what it looks like but what it feels like. Something that sets me apart from others is I have a teaching degree in early childhood and also, I’m a mom of three kids, so I love interacting with your little ones and making them feel special and loved. I have been through the baby stage three times and know how exhausted new moms are, and also how hard it is to get the family dressed for pictures! I am quick to capture but also very patience to wait when need be.

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I believe there are many opportunities for women to share their talents and passions with others. Sometimes, finding the correct avenue to share can be hard, but I always encourage women to never give up on a passion or dream that God has gifted to you because the world needs your gifting and people who are doing what they love!
