Conversations with the Inspiring Andrea Carr

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Carr.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Andrea. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After graduating college, I decided to take a couple of workshops to learn how to shoot in Manual with my DSLR. This was purely for fun and to start a new hobby. I quickly fell in love and before I knew it I had a client’s wanting portraits. After some time I found my style and niche. I became obsessed with couples in love and all things weddings. I love the structure, fast pace, and roll with the punches type of days that weddings bring. I get to be with couples on one of the best day of their lives! It is humbling and such an honor. For portraits, I have the best time showing off my client’s personalities and capturing their lives in this moment in time.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being an entrepreneur in a saturated market, it is so easy to compare yourself to others. In the beginning it can be hard to set yourself apart when you are constantly wondering if you are doing the right thing. My advice is to better yourself with mentorships and classes for the business aspect of photography. But at the same time, find YOUR style and brand for your business. You are doing a disservice to your clients when you try to be just like someone else. No one else is you and that is your power. Be the best at your thing, not just “good” at 15 different things. I truly feel that there are thousands of certain photographers that will meet thousands of different client’s needs. There is someone for everyone. You do not have to be someone that you are not to please a client.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Andrea Elizabeth Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in weddings and portraits. Portraits can include engagements, bridals, boudoir, families, children, and maternity. I also love lifestyle head shots for entrepreneurs.

When it comes to weddings, I excel in organization, killer timelines, and the ability to work fast with a smile. I truly love wedding days and being more than just a photographer for my brides.

I want my clients to feel they look like the best version of themselves when they see their photos. 20 and 30 years from now I want them to look back at these memories and smile because they feel like their true selves were captured.

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
I love Jenna Kutcher’s The Goal Digger podcast! I can relate to so many topics being not only a photographer, but a female entrepreneur. I encourage other young photographers to also take lots of workshops, for business and creativity. There is nothing like hands on, in person, learning amongst peers.
