Conversations with the Inspiring Beth Dreyer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Dreyer.

Beth, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started on my journey to live with less toxins in my life in BABY steps years and years ago. The idea that there was such a thing as toxic chemicals in my personal care products and foods had NEVER entered my consciousness until I was pregnant with my first child. I truly did not care and did not make any effort at taking care of my future health and wellness. I wasn’t struggling with anything at that moment, and that’s all I cared about. I ate like a Gilmore Girl, and LOVED myself a synthetic fragrance!

But being pregnant will make you think differently! At first, I got rid of all my cleaning supplies and tried to replace them with less toxic versions. Later, I started learning about our food industry and how to make less toxic food choices. Before I knew it, I was making my own deodorant and buying raw milk through a co-op. What in the WORLD?! 😂

I became the go-to person you asked if you had a question about anything healthy, like making transitions to less toxic choices, or how to make bone broth. I loved sharing what I had learned and helping other women make changes for their families.

Eventually, I stumbled upon Young Living and essential oils, and I started seeing all of the pieces of my interests come together in this one place. I fell head over heels in love with essential oils, they fit right into the lifestyle I was creating for myself. Then, I discovered that Young Living had all kinds of other non-toxic products that I could buy all in one place like laundry soap, household cleaner, and even makeup without having to shop all over and research ingredients. Lifesaver! And on top of that, it could be a business where I could help other women just like me make changes in their family’s health and even help them succeed in business?! This was what I had been looking for and didn’t even know it!

Has it been a smooth road?
Building my Young Living business has absolutely not been a smooth road. One thing you learn quickly when you’re in network marketing is: 1) what a limiting belief is and 2) what yours are!!! Network marketing is actually a personal growth plan that comes with a compensation plan. I highly recommend it! Bless my heart, all of a sudden I was confronted with ALL KINDS of limiting beliefs that were blocking my success that I never knew I had!

In my personal growth plan, what I’ve discovered (while making a paycheck) is that I had some deeply ingrained unconscious beliefs about moms being successful business people. As in, ‘a woman can’t be both a good mom and have a thriving career.’ {cringe} And some *really* ugly beliefs about God not wanting to bless me.

And y’all those LIES, among others – that I didn’t even realize I believed – have held me BACK from reaching my potential! Obviously. So, not only was the enemy lying to me about who I could be but THEN he was trying to make me feel shame that I wasn’t seeing the growth I wanted in my business BECAUSE OF THOSE LIES.

And on top of that, I had lots of people in my family and close to me giving me the side-eye for being one of those people doing a network marketing business. People that thought I was silly, people that though I wouldn’t succeed. I actually have hardly any family members who have signed up and are using the products that I sell or have joined me in this business, which has been hard! I always hear these great stories about sisters or cousins or best friends doing this business together, and for me, it just hasn’t worked out that way so far! It’s hard to blaze a new trail when you feel like the people you love aren’t supporting you or are actively mocking you. But you know what? What other people think of me is none of my business, and if they don’t want to use these products that have changed my life, and rock businesses together it’s their loss. I can still love them and not let my disappointment damage my relationships.

What I’d recommend to other women starting on their journey here are three things:

1) Start leaning into the personal growth books
2) Love people
3) Get out of your comfort zone when it comes to number 2.

I’m talking about giving of yourself, whether it’s just in talking to people in line at the grocery store, inviting someone to a play date, bringing someone a meal, commenting on their photos, or actually reaching out and saying, “Hey I have something that might help you.” The more you give of yourself in real ways, the more you care about someone else’s life, the more you help others succeed, the more you will succeed.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into your business story. Tell us more about the business.
So right now, I have a Young Living business and a growing Instagram brand where I love connecting with other moms. Technically, I have a blog as well, but since having my fourth child, I haven’t found my blogging rhythm again – yet! Stay tuned, because I love to write!

Over on Instagram, I share about my daily crazy life unschooling four kids and share lots of ‘momcouragement’ that has come from the trenches and mountain tops of my own life as a mom.

In my stories, I share recipes, tips, mom-hacks, simple swaps for less toxic living, our unschooling life, my toddler daughter’s latest antics (she was a poop finger painter for a while! 😳) and occasionally, I sing and dance in my kitchen. I’m an enneagram 7, so you never know what you’re going to get with me, but you’ll always be entertained, educated, or encouraged!

I’m the non-toxic essential oils lady! So, I help people being getting rid of some of the toxins in their homes by slowly switching our products with non-toxic versions from Young Living, from hand soap to cosmetics to toothpaste. When people get their Young Living account through me, I coach them in my private Facebook group and with personal messages about how to use their oils, ways to make less toxic choices, and all kinds of ways to live in better health!

And then, when they are ready to start their own business, I have everything they need to hit the ground running and begin to help their friends make changes in their lives. I love this business because I only make more money if I’m helping other people be successful.

It’s the best! Helping people and helping people help people!

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
Oh man, obviously, I’m inspired by so many women both in my personal life and people who are famous. But one person in particular that I am so inspired by Paula Dean. And not only because I too heart butter.

Did you know that before she was famous she suffered from crippling agoraphobia for something like 20 years?

She started her first business making bag lunches for her coworkers at age 42, grew into being a chef at a Best Western and eventually started her own restaurant.

But she didn’t become “Paula Dean” until age 55 when she got the tv show that made her famous.

Whenever I’m tempted to think that I’m ‘behind’ because I haven’t accomplished XY or Z, I think of Paula Dean, and I remind myself that everyone’s path looks different and can still be amazing no matter where it started or what challenges came up along the way.
