Conversations with the Inspiring Cratina Webb

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cratina Webb.

Cratina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
This love I have for the hair industry started when I was forming in my mother’s womb. My mother is a cosmetologist as well, this is where the love stemmed from. I am a second-generation cosmetologist, and I’m highly motivated and outgoing. With almost 20 years of professional experience including salon management, marketing, hair/trade show production, magazine publishing, educating and operation experience, I made my mark. I’m from Marshall, a small town in East Texas and it was easy to gain popularity there. I learned from one of the best, my mom, everyone knew I was going to follow in her footsteps.

My clientele was great in Marshall, but marriage would soon have me to move to Dallas, TX. The intimidation set in because of the big city scare, but I learned I was made for the city. I worked for my current partner for 6 to 7 years before we entered into a partnership. I came aboard and increased staff by 75%, implemented team building skills, and created an exceptional brand. After making my presence known in the DFW metroplex, I was approached to do a hair show.

This enthusiast at the time (rest his soul) was adamant about us starting an event that would include and put Dallas stylist on the map. We joined together and produced the Texas International Hair Show. Once the show became popular my career took off for the best. I now maintain numerous entrepreneurial entities including Girl Talk Salon and Spa, The Texas International Hair Show and recently The Texas International Hair University and a professional stylist and barber hair care line. I live by my motto, dream big don’t sleep!!!! There’s more to come for my brand and all the brands attached, so stay tuned.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Success is never a smooth road. Picture the road that zigzags through the peaks and valleys, that is what success looks like. There are several challenges and side effects, heartaches, sleepless nights, early mornings, lost of friendships, and many more. My advice to any woman that is considering answering YES to success, get you a strong support system. Also, stay the course and don’t be moved.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Girl Talk Salon and Spa / Texas International Hair and Trade Show story. Tell us more about the business.
I maintain numerous entrepreneurial entities like I mentioned earlier. I am a master cutter, a salon owner and that comes with management and leadership. I supervise and manage a staff of 12+, I produce a hair/trade show with over 100 vendors, 50+ educators, 30+ competitors, 20 volunteers, and 5000 attendees, I also produce fashion shows, I am an educator, author, publisher, and Editor in Chief.

I specialize in implementing operational improvements and managing challenging projects. I’m pretty much known for owning Girl Talk Salon and Spa and being director of the Texas International Hair Show. I’m most proud of the innovation that myself and my team continue to put out. What sets me apart from others? I believe my undying love for the growth of others, sets me apart. it moves me to see my successors succeed. I sacrifice a lot to ensure my whole team wins.

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
Whoever you are looking up to or considering calling your mentor, be sure they are operating in the success you see yourself working in. It has to be someone who is caring enough to take out the time to show you the ropes. It has to be someone who will not turn on you once you have surpassed them. I never asked the ones who actually mentor me to mentor me. They took it upon themselves because they saw the greatness in me before I discovered it.
