Today we’d like to introduce you to Geetha Rao.
Geetha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Art has always been a part of my life. From dabbling in watercolors as a child to learning collage and batik as a teenager, my interest in colors and composition led me to a career as an architect. My background in architecture has provided me with experience in design, color, and composition which I apply to my paintings.
My recent works are mainly in oils and acrylics, where I love to use bright colors and textures. My favorites themes are painting landscapes, seascapes, and florals. I also paint smaller watercolor pieces. I continue to take classes, paint as much as possible and participate in local art groups to learn and grow as an artist.
This year has been an interesting one for me. I have been selling my artwork online. I have also participated in 3 shows in the Dallas area. I hope to continue to evolve in my passion and learn even more in the year to come.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think the biggest challenge is trying to make it a practice of trying to paint every day. We are all trying to juggle a million different things with families, kids, and social obligations. So making time to paint at least an hour daily is difficult for me.
I also found that it is so important to have a studio space ( or at least a studio corner) where you get plenty of natural light. I prefer to paint in natural light, so this was important to me.
It helped me in the initial stages to attend local art classes where I could have a larger block of time to paint. I learned a lot from these classes not just from the teacher but also from the other participants. The socialization at these classes was also great because being an artist is usually such a solitary career and having that group with a common passion is also fun.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into raoart story. Tell us more about your work.
I am an artist specializing in oils and acrylics. I enjoy painting landscapes, florals, and abstracts. I am mainly selling originals so if you are looking for an original piece of art, reasonably priced; you should contact me!
I have both large and small works for sale which are perfect for gifts or home decor especially with the holiday season coming up.
For a good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I feel that women are well positioned to be entrepreneurs and small business owners, especially in the artistic field. Women bring in qualities of emotional intelligence, the ability to multi-task and creative ability to any enterprise.
