Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg McDonald, Tamme Leff and Kristy McDonald.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We (Greg, Kristy and Tamme) opened a restaurant in 2009 called 5th Street Patio Cafe. In 2014 we thought we would add a food truck as a catering/off site event sales option. While doing research for that, we happened to discover the concept of a food truck park. We immediately felt that type of concept would be a great addition to the Frisco area. Frisco has grown so much and added so many great new restaurants, but it still didn’t have the “cool” place to come hang out, listen to live music and just enjoy the evening. That was the vision for the Frisco Rail Yard, a food truck park with rotating trucks daily, a full bar and live music.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The first obstacle was that the city of Frisco did not have any zoning or ordinances for this type of venue. We had to work very closely with city staff to come up with what would work for the both of us. Other than that, just the usual daily struggles of staffing, marketing, etc. a very new type of concept.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Frisco Rail Yard story. Tell us more about the business.
We are known for friendly service and great drinks. Of course, our variety of food trucks that come here as well. We are very proud to have brought this new concept to Frisco. So many of our patrons have been so excited to have something like this here we have literally been hugged by more people than we can count as they thank us for opening!

We definitely try to keep up with the latest trends in the industry, but since this is such a new and different type of concept, we are somewhat on our own!
