Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Alley.
Jasmine, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved to Dallas in 2015 to marry my husband, who is from here. Whenever I’d ask him for fun activities to do in Dallas, he never really had an answer for me other than fun brunch spots. His impression of Dallas, after growing up here, was that all it had to offer was great dining options! I love adventuring and exploring, so that simply did not work for me. I became determined to find fun things to do here.
After I started finding and posting fun things to do on my new Instagram (I was late to join instagram- I started my IG in November 2016), people began to tell me I should start a blog to share them with others who were in the same boat as my husband.
That turned into me starting my blog in April of 2017. It has been a year now, and that’s what I’m still doing today while working my full-time job on the side.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a bumpy road. My blog didn’t actually start gaining a genuine followership until very recently- within the past two months! It can be extremely disheartening, but you just need to keep posting content.
On Instagram, I quickly learned that it’s true when they say the comparison is the thief of joy! I have to constantly check myself to make sure I’m not comparing myself to others who have more likes, followers, engagement, etc.
I just need to focus on doing the best that I can and return to the reason WHY I’m blogging. I want others to see that they can adventure with a full-time job, that there is fun to be found no matter where you are!
So if you’re starting your own journey blogging, stay true to your WHY. Keep that in focus, and don’t mind others who appear more successful than you! Just be you.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into your business story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in finding adventure, both locally and abroad. Locally most of the time, and abroad when I have vacation days. I think that your sense of wanderlust shouldn’t be snuffed out just because you’re out of vacation days or low on money. There’s fun to be found anywhere!
I’m most proud of the photos I take (or rather, that I get my husband to take!). I love editing my photos in Lightroom to have a consistent feed. I love making things aesthetically beautiful, which is one of my goals.
I think locally, what sets me apart from others, is that I make Dallas look beautiful (not to toot my own horn!). When other people look at my IG feed, they see beautiful places- sometimes from around the world, but most of the time right here in Texas. I love that that is the reaction that other people have when seeing my IG!
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I think that women are in a great position for being positive influencers in their community. This might be true for guys as well, but I just feel like women look up to women, and when they see people they respect being genuine and real, it results in trust and overall positive vibes. There can be so much cattiness when it comes to girls, so I think we are in a unique position to get rid of that.
