Conversations with the Inspiring Jewel Laura

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jewel Laura.

Jewel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my blog in my final year of graduate school in hopes of having some sort of a creative outlet. It initially started out as a way to document my style and eight years later, it’s evolved into a style, beauty and travel blog. It’s really allowed me to share my passions with like-minded women and allows me to connect with women all over the world.

Has it been a smooth road?
It most certainly has not been a smooth road but things worth striving for usually never is. Experience is a wonderful teacher and if I had quit, I wouldn’t have known the in’s and outs of blogging that I do now. Truthfully, there’s new things to learn and discover each and every day.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into StyleOptimitst story. Tell us more about it.
My career field in mental health and having recently moved to Dallas a few months ago, I’m working on obtaining my License in Professional Mental Health Counseling. I’ve worked with children, adults and families alike to provide psycho-education and work towards building healthy coping strategies to deal with life’s complexities. I love that I am able to embrace my two passions of helping people in two unrelated and satisfying ways.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
Absolutely! Having moved to the U.S from Liberia (West Africa) in High School completely changed the trajectory of my life.
