Conversations with the Inspiring Linsey Barta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Linsey Barta.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Linsey. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
My blog on fashion and fitness has been a long time coming. Growing up, I had always been an athletic gal, playing all the sports throughout youth and eventually narrowing it down to volleyball and tennis throughout college. Fitness has always been a part of my life, but I never really got into fashion growing up. My love for fashion came about a year ago after realizing I wanted to quit my full-time job, as it wasn’t making me happy or using my skills to the best of my ability. After making this decision, I started realizing that how you present yourself plays a very important role in the way people view you as an asset in their own lives and the effect your style has on your success, particularly while networking.

Once I realized this, I decided that the way I presented myself would be a direct reflection of who I am on the inside. I wanted to portray my personality, positive outlook on life, and character strengths through fashion and style. From this came my blog, Labels & LISS. With a focus on a few of my favorite brand name labels and lots of frugal finds, the fashion side of my blog was created. LISS stands for Low-Intensity Steady State fitness.

This is my favorite form of fitness, as it works for everybody. It gives people a chance to be fit and stay active without pushing them to their limits mentally or physically. This could include an incline walk on a treadmill for 20-30 minutes, the stair master for 15 minutes, leisurely swimming for 20 minutes, the elliptical. All of these activities are easy on the mind and body, making them ideal for almost everyone. Not to mention I HATE running, and the only time you’ll catch me doing it is if I’m being chased. I also accompany my LISS with weightlifting, and I love the endorphin high you get after a good gym sesh.

I currently reside in Fort Worth and operate my own small graphic design business with a focus on branding other small local businesses. The decision to quit my 9-5, move across the country, and restart my life has been the best decision I’ve ever made. If something doesn’t feel right in your life, re-evaluate what parts of it are not living up to your expectations. Then change them. You will feel liberated and rewarded for your perseverance towards a life you love.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
You will have times of failure. There will be times that things don’t go as you had planned. You may wake up one day and say to yourself “I’m not happy.” And that’s okay! Evaluate what areas of your life are not making you happy, then come up with a plan to change them. This plan doesn’t have to require a lot of thought. The action is what’s most important. Take the leap. Make the change, no matter how big or small.

What should we know about Labels & LISS? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
As a blogger, I find it extremely satisfying to share styles, products and fitness routines that work for me in the hope that it may help someone else find something they were looking for, even if they didn’t know they were looking for it. Finding yourself is a life-long process, and personally, I’ll take all the help I can get from those who have tried and tested something before me.

As for my graphic design business, I love working one on one with clients, rather than for clients. Having the personal connection with small businesses and integrating myself into their day-to-day routines to get a feel of what their brand is… that’s the best part of my job. It also creates for a more true branding compared to a large design corporation who is purely thinking of the visuals behind a brand. The visuals are important, but so are the people running the business. The owners and operators who are the faces of the organization are what makes a small business successful.

For a good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
Women have an exponential amount of opportunity, particularly right now while there is a focus on gender as a whole. With technology making it easier than ever to create your brand, there’s no better time to start.

Females have the power and the know-how when it comes to social media compared to men. In regards to Instagram in particular, 68% of users are female, per Omnicore Agency’s September 2018 stats. These females come from all over the world, all ages, all demographics. The networking and doors that can open simply from a conversation via social media are endless. Creating an online identity is not only easy with today’s technology but necessary.

Hiring managers and HR professionals are constantly turning to social media before they even call someone in for an interview. Consider your online brand your first interview. Who are you? What is your brand? Are you allowing other people to see the real you via your online presence? These are all questions you should have an answer to by the end of 2018 to gain the most connections and excel both personally and professionally.
