Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Saylor.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My creative heart tends to lead my life in the path it has choose for me. I see the world through a lense wether I’m looking through one or not. I love to see beauty in everything. From my day job as a hairstylist, painting artwork for fun to capturing the beauty of works of are on a plate, I see it as perfection. DoinDallasTX started just like any other hobby of mine. My husband, Scott and I are both hairstylists by day and foodies by night. We have a love for good food and cocktails. With all the growth in North Dallas our restaurant options here are endless. DoinDallasTX was born when our clients would ask what restaurants we had been to and which ones were the best. My love for photography gave me the I dea to start a page to show our clients all the wonderful restaurants we had experienced. It was as if we had created this guide to the best restaurants in Dallas for our clients. After a couple of months, our page started gaining followers and the likes and comments from people we didn’t know were overwhelming. Our page has become a big part of our life and it’s been amazing, thus far. We have met so many wonderful people and have made some great friends along the way.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When I first started DoinDallasTX, it was just for fun. It still is fun, but it is work. I struggle with balancing a full time career, children and going to lunches and dinners we have been invited to. Keeping our page current and posting everyday can be hard, but I always find time. For women who are looking to start a blog or Instagram page, it’s important to know it’s not easy. You have to be interactive with your followers, post daily and do your research. It took a lot of research to get where we are today. Don’t let your page run your life. It should be something you are passionate about and enjoy.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into DoinDallasTX story. Tell us more about the business.
We have always loved eating at restaurants and it’s no secret that we go out almost every night. Our goal is to capture the essence, placement and the flavor of the food in our photos and a detailed description of all our posts. We want our followers to trust us and believe in what we are showing them. We would never steer our followers wrong and post terrible food just because we got some good photos. If it’s not good we don’t post it. I believe it’s our fun nature, cool choices in restaurants and our quality photos that make us stand out from other pages.
It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
