Today we’d like to introduce you to Yesenia Romero.
Yesenia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I originally started my blog Senful Beauty as a way to express my love for all things beauty and fashion. I wanted an outlet to share all my favorite things regarding makeup and fashion and how to find great products on a budget. I was also looking to provide a way for the everyday working girl to have someone to relate to. I found it hard to relate to all the beauty vloggers and bloggers I found online because none of them were like me; working full time and having to find products and clothes on a budget.
My blog then quickly turned into being a freelance makeup artist. I always loved the way makeup makes me feel. The way it gave me confidence and how I held my head higher when I was glammed up. I started my journey doing makeup on my sisters and friends; then it became friends of friends and so forth and that’s when I started freelancing. I knew how makeup made me feel and I wanted other women to feel the same way. I wanted them to feel great about themselves and walk around knowing they looked good. Confidence is beauty!
It wasn’t until October of 2017 that I started working with Blushbar Beauty in Frisco that I really felt I was able to take my makeup artistry to the next level. They have given me the tools and training to become a better makeup artist and really perfect my craft. They have been a huge stepping stone for my career.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t think to pursue your dream ever comes without a struggle. Being a freelance makeup artist takes a lot of hard work. It can be difficult to build clientele and because being a makeup artist isn’t my full-time job, scheduling became an issue. It can be difficult to get going and build yourself up to have constant work. There are long days and working 7 days a week can take a toll but doing what you love takes sacrifices.
My advice for other women or younger women would be to do it!! Let nothing stand in the way of your goals and dreams. It may not be an easy road but once you are there, there’s nothing better. Always be realistic in goal setting and know that with faith and hard work, you can do anything!

I’m a makeup artist at BlushBar in Frisco as well as a freelance makeup artist.
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
Unfortunately, as a woman, I think we have to work 10 times harder to get where we want to be. The opportunities are definitely out there for us, especially in the beauty industry. We just have to not take no for an answer and keep breaking barriers.
