Conversations with Roy Haidar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roy Haidar.

Hi Roy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve started my makeup journey at a very young age in Los Angeles. My first job was at Lancome cosmetics. I fell in love with it. Two years later, I wanted to do more, I got the chance to work for MAC that lasted almost seven years till I got signed to a makeup and hair agency based in LA. My journey then started with the media, working with celebrities, tv shows, and fashion week. I’ve met incredible people who really believed my work. I moved to Texas, wanting a change and to be closer to my family. I landed a job with Nars cosmetics as the Executive sales and training and I love it. I still do a lot of makeup on the side and do travel to LA during award season. I now have a podcast called Wakeup To Makeup which highlights my career along with other entrepreneurs and other upcoming artists from all genres.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Usually, in LA, it’s extremely competitive. As they say, “it’s all who you know”. I did work really hard to get where I am but displaying my talent and the number of efforts that I put into my craft. At the end of the day, my work was what I had to show for. I had to really focus on being consistent and put myself out there as an artist. That really helped pave the way.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My main domain is makeup artistry. I’m known for skin and Smokey eyes. Skin for me is very important. One of the proud moments I had is when I worked on set for So You Think You Can Dance. The energy was incredible and I met amazing people on that show specifically. People know my artistry especially looking back 10-15 years ago my work is still relevant and modern.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
At one time, I had a makeup line at the age of twenty-four. People get really surprised by that (in a good way).
