Conversations with Albie Robles

Today we’re excited to be connecting with Albie Robles again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.

Albie, we are so thrilled to be connecting again and can’t wait to hear about all the amazing things you have been up to. Before we jump into all of that, some of our readers might have missed our prior interview, so can you take a moment to reintroduce yourself?
In a previous interview with Voyage Dallas, I talked about how I got started as a voice actor, and described the steps I took to get there after a bout of depression brought on by not having a creative outlet.

Learning everything I could though podcasts, social media groups, and eventually hiring a voiceover coach, I was able to wade into the shallow end of the business, and slowly work my way up, finding work everywhere I could. Some of it free. Some of it bartered. A hundred auditions for jobs I didn’t get, which is the norm in this business. I learned audio editing and audio engineering.

But there were jobs I did get. I started to get paid more for them. I started to learn the value of the skillset I’d developed.

I began to get jobs providing voices for indie films, animation, and video games.

I eventually got an agent, then another. I began to get work with known brands. Motorola. Icy Hot. Snickers.

I became a working voice actor. I started a paranormal podcast. At last, I had a way to put my creativity to use.

Great, so let’s jump into an update on what you have been up to since we last spoke. What can you share with us?
There is quite a lot I’ve gotten to work on since the last article.

Most exciting, I finally got the opportunity to go into Crunchyroll for a recording session. My first time there, I recorded for One Piece, which was just a dream come true. I was brought back a few months later, then again for a different show. Eventually I began to go back on a regular basis. I love it every time.

I also started to get regular work with Voyage Media, working on scripted podcasts. It was with them that I had some of my favorite roles of all time. I was a cartel leader in The Lion’s Den, a dictator on Mars in Sanctuary, a detective investigating murders that could not have been committed by a human being in Primal, and my favorite role to date, the unhinged Lieutenant Ritter in Someone Is Killing the Wolfhounds. These were amazing roles, and now my voice was being heard alongside the likes of Lily Rabe and Bruce Greenwood.

I also started to work as a location sound mixer for productions. Recording sound for short films, features, and documentaries. I’d gone to film school in the late 90’s, and I am glad to finally put that to good use.

We have now arrived at one of our favorite parts of the interview – the lightning round. We’ll ask you a few quick questions to give us all some fun insights about you.
