Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Stevenson
Hi Alyssa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Alyssa Stevenson and I am the owner of Alyssa S. Creative. I have always taken an interest in photography and videography, even since I was a little girl. Looking back on my childhood I remember having several digital cameras that I would record life on. From editing “music videos” to taking pictures of nature around me I was there for all things camera! It wasn’t until I started using my mom’s Nikon D5000 in 2018 that I started to become obsessed with photography. I would take the camera everywhere I went and shoot everything I could. Eventually, I started becoming interest in PR work because of photography and decided to pursue my Bachelors in Public Relations, which is what I’m currently working on at the University of North Texas! I began my professional career as a social media manager for Orion Powersports two years ago photographing dirt bikes and electric bikes. Alongside that I decided to start my own business at the beginning of 2023 as a means to pursue more passion projects with photography like portraits and couples. Now almost a year and a half into my business I am so thankful for my wonderful clients that allow me to fuel my creativity and do what I love most!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting your own business definitely has its challenges! It is all a learning process from making your own website to learning how to manage your time. With being a full time student and having two part time jobs, time management is very important to me and something I learned how to do it very quickly as well. At the beginning, I struggled with comparing my progress to other photographers. Seeing how well their businesses were doing compared to mine hurt my self confidence in the beginning, but I learned to appreciate their art without diminishing mine. What is most important is that we celebrate ourselves and the success of others in an uplifting way! Instead of seeing other photographers as competition we should see each other as a community that shares a love for such a special art form.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a photographer/ videographer that specializes in portraits, couples, weddings, and sports. I love portraits because you can create so many different stories with them. You can choose to have a theme, go to a cool location, use props, make interesting poses, or anything that you want! The sky’s the limit. I love couples and wedding shoots because of the emotion they convey. There is something so beautiful about love and how it is conveyed through photography that holds a special place in my heart. I love sports photography because of the passion people bring to the shoot! There is a fire like no other in these shoots and they often come out to be some of the most creative pictures!
If I had to describe my style I would say it focuses a lot on movement and true-toned colors. In my opinion, movement in photography makes a picture into the art that it is. I also love black and white photos! I’m not sure exactly what it is about black and white photos, but they are absolutely mesmerizing! As for videos, I love making montage style videos that have fun or inspiring music behind them with some natural audio! These are such fun videos to edit and often have a lot of emotion behind them.
Any big plans?
I am hoping to keep my business up and running throughout my career as a side hustle and to keep my passion. I would love to one day host content days for other photographers and maybe even have my own senior rep team each year! I’m with wherever the wind takes me, even if that means pursuing photography and videography full time!
