Conversations with Andrea Litsch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Litsch.

Andrea, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. As the eldest of 4, my parents instilled the organizational skills early on which enabled a household of 6 to cohabitate comfortably… as best you can when there are 4 kids! I earned a B.A in Sociology & Criminology and a post-grad in Marketing. Shortly after I moved to Florida with my now ex-husband.

His career had us temporarily moving around the US and even to China in 2015. With the moves I found myself finding comfort in new places by organizing the house. I love finding that organizational flow that just makes sense in space. It gives me that meditative calmness to deal with the stresses/unknowns in life.

In 2016, I parlayed those moving/organizing experiences and started working with a professional organizer in Tampa. We were on a specific job organizing a client’s closet, and despite it being customized– her long dresses were blatantly hanging on the ground! I thought to myself I can do this better, and soon joined California Closets as a closet designer. Over 6 years later, the fact that people put their trust in me to bring their spaces to life still means the world; and I take that Very Seriously!

At the beginning of this year, I moved to Dallas with my boyfriend. Building a life in a new city has been challenging and fun. As I’ve settled in and adjusted to living in a new city/state I am forever arranging and rearranging the apartment to try out different functional flows for the rooms. The closets have me appreciating how much of a difference custom closets make for your inventory!

I have met some wonderful people and am happy to be in Dallas. Moving from Florida, it is nice to get the fall and spring seasons back again! Here in Dallas, I am working with a boutique closet company called Closet Envy. Continuing my passion for function + order and creating beautiful spaces for people that make the start and end of their day easier!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Heck no! I am an introvert and making new friends and being outside my comfort zone…. is a challenge for me. Yet I still live in a different country from my family and friends. Going through school I never had that calling feeling toward a career. I have an undergrad in sociology and criminology.

After I finished my post-grad marketing I still was not sure ‘what I wanted to be when I grew up. Getting into closet design in my 30s was the first time in my life where I felt like things just ‘clicked’ – Does that make it easy? Still no!!!!!!!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a closet designer – I create custom interior designs for closets to meet their functional and aesthetic goes. Sometimes it is straightforward and functional and sometimes we add a lot of bells and whistles. It all depends on the client their needs, budget, and goals for the space. I excel at listening to the client’s needs and creating a collaborative space for the closet design process.

I am backed by an amazing team at Closet Envy and it does take a village to bring a closet to life. I am proud of the spaces I have created over the years. My understanding of closet layouts, what works best in certain spaces and my confidence to convey to clients help to build a strong trusting relationship with the people I work with.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Communication, spatial layout expertise, patience, honesty, quality materials and vendors, knowledge of closet spaces, and important details.
