Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Robinson.
Hi Angela, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story is not a short one by any means, but I will try to be as brief as possible. My name is Angela Robinson, and I come from a considerably low-income family. With an upbringing that was not the greatest by any means, I still had family who was there for me and loved me but didn’t necessarily know how to parent. I come from a family of addiction, and I myself continued that path from an very early age. Let this be a testimony to all the people out there struggling with addiction that want to become something and want to do something with their lives! After homelessness, heartbreak, and rock bottom, I finally said enough is enough! I went into treatment. I searched for programs and nonprofits. I did everything I had to because I knew that there was a better life out there for my children and I. As a single mother, I got full-time work, I saved money, I continued to go without at that point so I could build for my future. I mean really, it wasn’t that hard because I had already been going without for years. All those extra things that I like buying, like snacks or soda from a gas station, or getting a Starbucks coffee, or that really cute bag that you want, I knew I didn’t need that stuff now because I would need more important things in my future. So I saved, and I saved, and I saved. Skip forward. I end up getting my own place for my children and I; I continue to work full-time, and I live my life like a parent should that is there for their children. I have to give credit to my sister, she suggested this career path for me, and I am so grateful! She says, “I am going to do lashes; you should get into doing a makeup; you like doing tattoos and stuff! You can build your own business and be your own boss! And the money that you can make is way more than a 9 to 5 job!” It’s completely doable, too! I mean, I had the money at that point, why not?!? So I took it seriously, and I did what I had to do to complete training, to get certified, and to start my business! Training with ‘Pickture Perfect Brows’ in the Bedford, Texas area was the best decision I’ve ever made! Now I work every day to build on my newfound business my newfound passion. ‘Angie’s Inked Innovations’ is so important to me and my family because this is the foundation of our new life; this is me breaking the cycle of addiction and poverty for my family!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has by no means been a smooth road, and some of the struggles that I have faced along the way is just being a single mother while trying to build this business for myself and my family. Finding the time while working and also trying to set aside money for my business, I would say, has to be the toughest part. Also, me getting in my own way has been a struggle. I’m sure that there are people out there who can relate. There is always the worry that comes to me at night, “Am I going to make it? Am I going to be successful? Where am I going to find my next client? What if I don’t make enough money to pay my bills? I just have to tell myself that these are all normal worries, and I need to replace the negative ‘What ifs’ with, “What if I do make it? Or What if I am successful? Or What if I can pay my bills? Flipping those pessimistic thoughts with something optimistic will always make the road a bit smoother, but by no means is it easy.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I would say that I am an Artist and a creative mind who is building a business! I am a Permanent Makeup Artist, and I call myself Angie’s Inked Innovations! I apply pigments to the skin in order to create the appearance of makeup, such as eyebrows, eyeliner, and lip color in the form of a semi-permanent tattoo! I help people alter their appearance to become more comfortable in their bodies and feel happy about how they look by providing them with facial tattoos. People schedule appointments with me to make it look like they are always wearing makeup without having to apply and remove it each day. I, as a Permanent Makeup Artist, can also help people with issues like hyperpigmentation and other skin issues to achieve an even skin tone, cover scars, or restore natural features after surgery or treatment. Some of the types of services that I can perform include Microbladed eyebrows, Powder brows, Ombré Powder brows, NanoBrows, ComboBrows, Lip blushing, Permanent eyeliner, and eyelash enhancement! I am honestly proud of every type of procedure that I do! I think what sets me apart from others, besides the great work that I do, is my hard work, my drive, my motivation, and my story behind this business! I am also very flexible and can accommodate people’s needs very well, and my prices are not astronomical! You can’t find that type of business just anywhere.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I do have some people who deserve credit in giving me the push that I need on this journey! My sister, Brandi Hunt! She is the one who gave me the push to start this business and to become a Permanent Makeup Artist! If it wasn’t for her, I would’ve never gotten that seed implanted in my mind. Also, anytime I need her help with anything, she is always there! Truly, thank you so much, sis! Another person is Misty Fulgencio! She is my mentor and trainer and owns Pickture Perfect Brows located in Bedford, Texas! She has been an amazing teacher and goes out of her way to help with any needs that I may have to get my business started! She does extensive training, and even when I was done training, as long as she sees that I have the motivation and drive to move forward, she will go out of her way to help me with whatever I need! I also want to give credit to my children and my family at home for cheering me on! They are truly my motivators and my best cheerleaders! I also want to give credit to all of the clients that I have gotten when I was just starting out! To all of the people who have taken a chance on me to build my portfolio, Thank You! This has truly been a dream come true!
