Conversations with Angela Senor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Senor.

Hi Angela, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always been in the people business. I have always enjoyed being a part of a bright part of someone’s day. I started out in the food and beverage side- serving patrons of Snuffer’s and Stan’s Blue Note while starting g my cosmetology training with Ogle. After graduating I built up my clientele from my waitstaff colleagues. I also worked at a funeral home doing hair. Talk about an honor! To be the last intimate touch on someone who has moved on from this Earth. It was very special. After about a year of working solo, I decided I was craving advanced training and skills in my haircuts. The coloring part was almost instinctual and wanted to get more balance in both cutting and coloring. I took an apprenticeship with Toni &Guy NorthPark. At that time, it was specialized so of course, I choose cutting! I learned so much in that time employed by them. Almost a year later my wife, 2 fur babies, and I moved to Santa Fe. There I found a position with a salon owner whom had been Vidal Trained. She shared and mentored me for the whole 4 years we lived there. Once again so many experiences!!! The salon team often did hair for fashion shows at the art college. Imagine my surprise looking out to the audience to see Tom Ford next to Steven Spielberg! Pinch me…is this my life right now?

Fast forward my wife was having medical problems and we needed advanced care. We loaded up and headed back to Dallas…our home.

I spent 12 years working in an Aveda salon in Preston Hollow and cultivated some strong bonds with many amazing clients. Once the pandemic roared up, I was a wreck on how I could do what I love so and maintain a proper social distance.

I landed here where I plan on being for a bit. I’m in a private suite in Lake Highlands. I may be an independent stylist in my own studio but I carry every mentor and every assistant with me every day. I truly believe we are influenced to become who we are in our lives by learning from/through others. Connectivity to one another! We all are connected.

And how life is full circle totally amazes me.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My passion for this industry has overridden anything that was an obstacle or struggle. Not to mention I am a true believer in trust the process and I always say the magic is in the journey. It is keeping my energy moving forward fueled by my passion of helping people feel good or at the least refreshed and feeding my quest to continuously learn as much as I can about my craft.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an independent stylist. The services I offer range from color and cuts to smoothing treatments and extensions. I specialize in a lived-in dimensional color and texture style and pride myself in the marriage of both of those to complete the whole style- not only complimenting the person but the lifestyle as well. I always hear how much my clientele love their hair after we are done but I love giving such a great shampoo and head/ neck massage they just melt into the shampoo bowl. I often hear- I will give you an hour/rest if the day to stop. I think the thing that sets me apart is understanding that a look can be a whole feeling thing too!

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
My most important lesson has been realizing I am not in the hair business. I am in the people business that just happens to deal with hair.
