Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelina Acosta-Oropeza.
Hi Angelina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My love of body piercing started at a very young age, my father was a piercer, and I was always enthralled with the idea of adorning the body with beautiful art and jewels. I started my journey in the body piercing industry in 2018 by attending a Fakir Mussafar intensive in San Francisco, California. It introduced me to piercing at the highest and safest caliber and from there I really just hit the ground running. After going through a few apprenticeships that accumulated to about a year and a half I started working as professional piercer. I moved between a few shops in Dallas until I found Lady Magnolia, which is truly my home away from home and is an amazing space for piercing and tattoos.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Getting into the piercing industry is very rarely a smooth road. From finding a quality apprenticeship in a shop that respects you to working long hours without pay. It can often feel like an impossible road to go down. The challenges don’t end with finding a quality apprenticeship either. Finding the right shop that fits with your ethics and values is wildly important and often not an easy task. That being said, great shops and great apprenticeships are out there!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I love everything about piercing. I think that’s the number one thing my clients will realize off the top that I am genuinely honored and excited to get to do every piercing that comes through. I pride myself on my bedside manner and making sure my client has a thorough understanding of the process as well aftercare.
