Conversations with Annette Blackham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Annette Blackham.

Hi Annette, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We got started when my kids wanted to do a kid market but it was gonna be too expensive so we just did a pop-up in our neighborhood and they did great and sold out everything they had made and baked. So we decided to do it again and again they did amazing and sold out so we joined the city’s market and started selling more and more to friends and neighbors, and it’s becoming a full-fledged family business.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think there’s always struggles starting a new business finding what’s gonna work for your customers and what’s not Baking is hard work and a lot of hours and finding a good balance between baking and life is healthy.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve been baking for a long time and it’s been wonderful to pass that on to my kids. My son started doing sourdough for the business and my daughter does jewelry. I also add a few crochet items, but mostly we make artisan breads and gourmet treats.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think a quality for successful business is patience. I think a lot of people start a business thinking it’s gonna take off right away, but it takes years and I think it also takes knowing your customers and being friendly and kind.
