Conversations with Arwa Yemeni Coffee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arwa Yemeni Coffee.

Hello Arwa Yemeni Coffee, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Arwa Yemeni Coffee, the first Yemeni Coffee Shop in Texas, opened its doors to the DFW community December 2022.

The concept of Arwa Yemeni Coffee was developed after seeing the successful revival of Yemeni coffee beans in North America and other parts of the world. Through Arwa, we wanted to shed light on a country that once sourced the best coffee in the world; additionally, we also wanted to bring a little piece of Yemen to Texas, specifically to the DFW area. At Arwa Coffee, the DFW community gets to experience the Yemeni hospitality through our service, experience a little bit of our culture, taste some of our food, visualize some of our architecture, and of course, taste our great quality Yemeni-sourced, in-house roasted, mixes of coffee and tea.

Our goal for Arwa Yemeni Coffee is to be a vessel that houses our culture and the lens that focuses on the rich history of Yemen and the Yemeni people. Arwa Coffee will continue to be the best ambassador of high-quality Yemeni coffee and rich Yemeni culture.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Owning your own business is obviously different from a 9-5 job; however, despite all the stressors that come with it, it is extremely fulfilling and rewarding, knowing that it is second nature to all of us. It feels like a piece of art, it requires a great deal of hard work and dedication; however, the end result is a magnificent canvas. Challenges or opportunities that we have encountered along the way were all lessons that made us who we are today, and we will continue to reference them as we continue to flourish.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
Arwa Yemeni Coffee, the first Yemeni Coffee shop in the South, was founded by four members that were eager to bring a little piece of Yemen to the DFW area. Through Arwa Coffee, all four founders and co-owners, wanted not only to shed light to high quality coffee; we also envisioned Arwa to be the vessel that will provide the community with the opportunity to experience the Yemeni culture firsthand through our food, drinks, aesthetics, and service.

At the shop we serve and offer a variety of drinks both classic and specialty Yemeni drinks made with our imported naturally sun-dried Yemeni coffee beans. These high-quality beans are characterized by their unique aroma and undertones of chocolate and fruity flavors which allow our drinks to have a unique flavorful taste.

At Arwa, we ensure everyone’s preference in drinks is taken into great consideration when formulating all of our drinks. However, our house favorites are the Adeni tea, the Mofawer and the Yemeni latte. Anyone that has tried our drinks, whether it’s the Adeni tea, the Mofawer, Red tea or Yemeni latte, can attest to the aromatic proprietary Arwa spice blend. You can taste the caramelization of the milk and sugar infused with the spice blend.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
While Arwa Yemeni Coffee has only had its doors open for a couple of months, the concept was years in the making. Planning was initiated amidst the onset of the pandemic, reminding us that plans sometimes have to be adjusted due to the unpredictability of life. The many unknowns that surrounded just day-to-day life at that time also seeped into our plans, and as time progressed, we realized we would have to roll with the punches.

Having diverse professional backgrounds allowed all of us to appreciate each other’s differences and unique contributions to the planning and execution of the development of Arwa Coffee. We can proudly say Arwa is the result of growth as a team- learning more about each other and how to better work together.
