Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Ilboudo.
Hi Ashley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always wanted to start a business. I have attempted many before but Confections by Ashley is something I started that really allows me to be creative. It makes me feel good creating sweet treats for people. This creative outlet allows me to create things for people’s biggest occasions, and that makes me feel wonderful.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. I’m still in the starting stages. I have doubted myself time and time again, but I know that I have to stay consistent and stay the course. Some of the struggles were creating the products. There were times where I purchase a significant amount of inventory and the product failed, causing me to lose money. In those instances, you will feel that you will never make it, but you cannot give up.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Art and being creative has always been in my heart. My early professional career started at an arts educational non-profit, where I worked as the Education Coordinator, developing the art education programs for the youth of the community. It was a fulfilling time that I treasure to this day.
My other creative pursuits include creating a knitwear line and selling it around the world and in subscriptions boxes, when the trend just started. However, now I have entered into the world of desserts and gifting because it gives me the opportunity to show my creative side all of the time. Confections by Ashley is a labor of love that started during the pandemic because I wanted to start a business that allows me to be home more with my family.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see the industry evolving as time goes by. Social media has really allowed the world of desserts and gifts to blossom. In the next 5-10 years, I see the industry still thriving but adjusting in a huge way to the times and the trends that will be created.
