Conversations with Ashley Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Smith.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a licensed esthetician and I was trying to create a makeup brush cleaning system. I needed a product to protect the wood while the brushes were drying and while googling, I found resin. I made a prototype of the makeup brush cleaning system and never came back to it after I found all the other items I could make with resin.

Now I create wine accessories, flight boards, dominoes, eyelash trays, bowls, ashtrays, planters, and recently added propagation stations.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has been a little rough. I work full-time, I am a single parent of two teenagers, and I have my resin business.

Trying to juggle all my activities and my children’s is a struggle. Also, financing your business can be a struggle at times, especially in the beginning.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a self-taught resin artist. I create functional art. I specialize in wine accessories, bottle stoppers, eyelash trays, corkscrews, bowls, and flight boards. I think I’m most known for my drip bowls.

I am most proud of my wine accessories set. It comes with 2 wine glasses, a wine butler, a coaster set, a corkscrew, and a bottle stopper.

I think what sets me apart is my willingness to share information and help others in learning resin and participating in vendor events.

What are your plans for the future?
One of my goals is to be able to create my art full-time. One thing I would like to do this year is to start offering classes to teach resin art.
