Today we’d like to introduce you to Camille O’Bryant.
Hi Camille, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Wow!!! It all started when I was just a little girl, admiring and aspiring to be an amazing woman, like my mother! Growing up, my mother was a successful beautician. I watched her work hard, grow her business & provide for her family. In those moments, I knew I wanted her work ethic & to become just like her! At the age of 14, I started experimenting with styling my own natural hair, including braids, ponytails, curls & other natural styles, as well as makeup & nails. It wasn’t until my friends requested that I style their hair & do their makeup that I knew I was really talented & gifted like my mom. In 2004, I went to college for nursing, where I still found myself doing hair. That’s how I made my money & got through those tough college days, until 2006. I decided to drop out of college and take myself, my skills & talents seriously. I moved back home and started my own side business as a braider. In 2010, I enrolled full-time in cosmetology school (Remington College). Unfortunately, as a young adult, I had a hard time navigating through life’s trials and tribulations, so I had to drop out & work full-time. Fast forward to 2016, and I found myself still chasing my dreams. In 2017, I enrolled as a full-time cosmetology student again at Ogle School of Hair, Nails & Skin, where my mother graduated! At this moment, I knew I was on the right track. I graduated with my cosmetology license in 2018. I started working as a licensed cosmetologist for various salons & companies until I realized I was still working for other people. At that point, my goal was to gain more business & financial literacy so that I could build my own brand & business. In 2020, I was furloughed due to covid and that’s when I was forced to become my own boss, brand & business. I then created NailedItbyCamille Luxury Press on Nails that became a successful, flourishing small business that I maintained on my own. Once that level of confidence kicked in, I knew I could do anything I desired. 2022 came & the world was back open & I knew exactly what my purpose was. I started specializing in locs, found my community, built my clientele, brand & business, 4 years later, CocoLocstyles is a 5 star top Tier loctician servicing the DFW area.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
During my career journey, it has not been easy. It took me 8 years to complete my cosmetology license. Having to drop out of school, gain full-time employment, and build my business was extremely challenging. I had long days & late nights. For years, I had to focus more on maintaining employment than on my business. Once I was able to focus on my business full-time, I struggled with work-life balance and economic challenges. If it weren’t for those trials & tribulations, I wouldn’t have remained patient, persistent & steadfast during any struggles along the way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a licensed cosmetologist, I also like to think of myself as an artist/creative. I specialize in nail art, hairstyling, and hair coloring. I am most known for my luxury press-on nails and loc styles. I am most proud of my press-on nail business, which I started during COVID. What sets me apart is the level of customization behind every nail set, hairstyle, or hair color.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was a happy, playful kid who loved to dress up and express myself. I was interested in playing sports, step team, dance teams, and taking pictures.
