Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Pair.
Hi Candace, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My photography journey began in childhood. I was a quiet observer, and when I held a camera for the first time, my observations suddenly had purpose and direction. It started with disposable cameras in middle school, followed by hours in the darkroom during high school, where I learned to process film by hand.
In college, I had the incredible opportunity to work as a camp photographer at Pine Cove Christian Camps. It was there that a few mentors recognized something in me and spoke specific encouragement into my life, urging me to consider photography as more than just a hobby. Their words were the catalyst that led me to pursue this path more seriously. After much prayer and consideration, I transferred universities to study art and refine my craft.
During that time, I was blessed with the opportunity to intern under the university’s lead photographer. His generosity, both in knowledge and mentorship, offered me a meaningful and immersive experience in the world of professional photography. I had the privilege of learning from him for three years, which refined my approach and skill set.
After graduation, I returned to my hometown in Northeast Texas and began building my photography career. I started by photographing friends and family, gradually growing my portfolio. As the years passed and my skills developed, I found my calling in wedding photography. Now, with over a decade of experience, I’ve had the honor of capturing countless weddings – each one a unique and sacred milestone. It continues to be one of the greatest honors of my life to be trusted with documenting such significant moments.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My greatest challenge has also been my greatest joy: balancing photography and motherhood. In that tension, I’ve discovered deeper meaning and renewed purpose in my work. Raising children is a beautiful, demanding calling. It is one that turns free time into a rare luxury. It’s taught me to be far more intentional and disciplined in every area of my life.
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is that no matter how busy we get, humans weren’t created to work without rest. We were designed to pause, to breathe, to recover. When I began practicing a weekly day of rest, everything changed for me. I have found myself more present, increasingly joyful and better able to serve my family and my clients.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a wedding and portrait photographer serving clients across Texas and Arkansas. My approach combines the authenticity of documentary-style photography with the elegance of thoughtfully posed portraits.
Clients often tell me they appreciate my calm, peaceful presence – a quality that brings a sense of ease and joy to what can be an emotional, fast-paced day. I don’t just aim to capture beautiful images (though there will be plenty of those). What matters most to me is the experience I offer – one where people feel truly seen, loved, and cared for.
Beautiful photos are a given, but creating a meaningful, supportive experience for couples and their families is what I consider my highest honor. If they feel peace and joy on their wedding day because of the space I help create, then I’ve done my job well.
Any big plans?
Over the past eight years, I had intentionally limited my work to locations within a one-day drive. With little ones at home, being present for my family was my top priority. Now that those tiny babies have grown into big kids, I’ve found more freedom to expand my travel radius and I’m so excited about it. This new season means I can now say “yes” to more clients in more places. Whether it’s a wedding in the Texas Hill Country, a Dallas ballroom, the mountains of Colorado, or a tropical island, I’m excited to see where my camera takes me.
