Conversations with Cathy Krumholz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cathy Krumholz

Hi Cathy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Cathy Krumholz is a self-taught artist in Dallas. In 2019, her daughter, Stacy Granado, decided to make her mom’s love of art official and launched Three Ann Studio on Cathy’s birthday. The studio name was inspired by their shared middle name, Ann, which was passed along to Stacy’s daughter, Stella. Three generations share the same middle name – and a love for art. To surprise Cathy, Stacy made prints of some of her favorite pieces of her mom’s and worked with two Dallas businesses to carry the pieces. Cathy had no idea that a simple birthday shopping trip would result in seeing her very own works of art adorning Kettle Art Gallery in Deep Ellum and Talulah & Hess in Lakewood. This fun surprise launched the start of a fun adventure making art for bigger projects – commissions, residential installations, gallery showings, and charitable donations. Cathy has a whimsical abstract style and enjoys experimenting with new techniques. Cathy’s art ranges from large scale paintings to small, intricate collages.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Becoming a well-known artist is always hard, but Cathy Krumholz is not doing it for the fame. Her art flows from her soul on a daily basis and is pure enjoyment. Of course, gaining Instagram followers and likes is always a plus – and hard to grow – but Cathy truly does the artwork out of love for the process. Having fans and supporters is just an added bonus.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Cathy’s work ranges from large scale paintings to small collages in a notebook. Making jewelry is also a fun creative outlet for Cathy. Three Ann Studio’s tagline is “every wall needs some whimsy” – the style of Cathy’s work is fun, bright, uplifting, and unique. A majority of her work is abstract and playful. One of Cathy’s most proud projects was being commissioned to complete three large acrylic paintings for the Luxia Gallery House luxury apartments near the Galleria. The common areas in the space feature her beautiful work. Cathy enjoys painting commission pieces, several adorning walls in beautiful Lakewood area homes. Cathy has also been a proud supporter of LECPTA, a Lakewood area charity that raises funds for schools, by donating her artwork to several events for auction. Cathy’s unique, exploratory style sets her work apart from other artists – every piece has a special, personal touch.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
