Conversations with Christina Crawford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Crawford.

Hi Christina, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Arizona and Kansas City and attendee college at Mizzou. Post-college, I moved to New York City where I worked as marketing copywriter. After I got married, I moved back to my old college town, Columbia, MO, where I got my graduate degree and my husband finished up his school and training. We then moved to Texas and had three baby boys in four years. After my youngest started pre-school, I started writing again and have been going strong since.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve struggled personally with a condition called hyperemesis gravidarum, which is an extreme version of morning sickness that left me debilitated during all three pregnancies. Having three young children all at the same time comes with innumerable challenges of its own that we deal with on a daily basis. I’m an only child so this is brand new terrain for me.

The road to freelance writing is never an easy one. I had no idea what I was doing when I started so I learned by trial and error. Eventually, I figured out what works and now I write for many national publications, but it definitely took some time to get there.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a freelance health and parenting writer. As a mom of three little boys, I have infinite content. I find it incredibly therapeutic to take complicated situations and make sense of them on the page. I often find I don’t really know how I feel about something until I write about it. Finding the humor in difficult parenting situations is my specialty. I’m obsessed with all things health and wellness, so I find that fun to be able to research and interview experts on those topics and get paid to do it!

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I’ve reached out to strangers to ask questions and for professional advice. Some were incredibly kind and went above and beyond to help me and some just completely ignored me. The kind ones have inspired me to pay it forward. If someone ever reaches out to me, I’m always quick to help them if I can.
