Today we’d like to introduce you to Cici Marks.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Ive Known from a very young age I wanted to be a hairdresser, I graduated high school with my cosmetology license knowing my passion for it, worked my way up from apprentice to stylist at Neiman Marcus salon Atelier to now being in the business 17 years and running my own business while progressively learning and growing in my knowledge in hair/products and techniques. I am now a Wella master color expert and elite master precision cutter for both men and women alike.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh gosh no. Trial and error are how we overcome our fear of both being stagnant and not learning everything we can to be successful. Once you build trust with your clientele, usually they love being models for the new techniques and trying them with you.
That being said once, you’ve learned the techniques and have perfected them the imposter syndrome kicks in as you silently question yourself after every client if you’ve delivered to their satisfaction. Perfection is unattainable in our eyes (seasoned stylists) but it helps to keep motivation.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Hairstylist of 17 years, I now am a Master Color Expert in Wella color specializing in blonding/color correction and precision cuts for both men and women.
I would say I’m known for suggesting what’s best for my clients based on my knowledge of products and hair in general while also memorizing every formula and latest gossip with my over 200+ active clientele. I am most proud of being successful in my career and never letting my dream go, I’ve always been proud of where I came from and where I am now both mentally and financially.
I feel like I can turn anyone’s bad or ugly day around with a shoulder to lean on, a giggly story and hair that can turn that self doubt or worry into a brighter day. Sometimes a good scalp massage is all we need.
What does success mean to you?
Success to me is not just being able to buy groceries without caring about how much it could cost. It’s defined by the longevity at which my clients have seen me over the years; being invited to their weddings, baby showers and even celebrations of life after death. Being a part of people’s lives in all stages and vice versa. Truly growing together and building true friendships and trust.
