Conversations with Ciera Phillips

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ciera Phillips

Hi Ciera, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey into instructional design and EdTech started with a passion for education and a deep curiosity about how people learn. With over five years of experience in instructional design, I’ve worked on developing learning solutions for various organizations, including my current role in corporate learning. Throughout my career, I noticed a gap—many small businesses and entrepreneurs struggled with effectively onboarding an LMS (Learning Management System) and designing training that truly engaged their teams.

That realization led me to launch EdTechEducate, a platform dedicated to bridging that gap. My goal is to empower businesses with the right tools and strategies to create impactful learning experiences. Whether it’s implementing an LMS, designing training solutions, or mentoring individuals looking to transition into EdTech, I love helping others navigate the world of digital learning.

Today, I’m expanding EdTechEducate’s reach by sharing insights on Instagram, offering personalized services, and connecting with business owners who need training solutions but may not have a dedicated instructional designer on staff. My mission is to make learning accessible, engaging, and effective—one business at a time

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Overall, my journey has been relatively smooth, thanks to the flexibility in my roles and the professional development opportunities I’ve intentionally sought out. I’ve always been proactive about growing my skills, whether through certifications, networking, or staying ahead of industry trends. That approach has helped me navigate career transitions with confidence.

That said, one of the biggest challenges has been carving out a space for instructional design and EdTech in smaller businesses. Many organizations recognize the need for better training and learning systems, but they don’t always know where to start or how to invest in them effectively. Educating business owners on the value of well-designed training solutions has been both a challenge and a rewarding part of my work.

Through EdTechEducate, I’ve been able to bridge that gap, showing businesses how the right learning strategies can improve operations, employee engagement, and overall success. It’s been fulfilling to see my expertise make a real impact, and I’m excited to continue expanding this work.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At its core, my work is all about the art and science of learning. I specialize in instructional design, which means I create learning experiences that are not only engaging but also backed by research on how people absorb and retain information. Through EdTechEducate, I help businesses implement Learning Management Systems (LMS), design training programs, and develop strategies that make learning both effective and accessible.

I’m known for taking complex learning challenges and breaking them down into clear, structured solutions. What sets me apart is my ability to blend creativity with evidence-based learning principles. Many training programs focus too much on either engagement or structure—my approach ensures both. I design learning experiences that are interactive and user-friendly while also grounded in cognitive science and instructional best practices.

One of the things I’m most proud of is my work in mentoring individuals who want to transition into EdTech. A major part of this involves helping aspiring instructional designers build strong portfolios and reconstruct their resumes to showcase their skills effectively. My approach has led many of my mentees to land multiple job interviews, where they feel confident answering instructional design-specific questions. Seeing them successfully break into the industry and thrive in their new roles is one of the most rewarding aspects of what I do.

Through EdTechEducate, I get to impact both businesses and individuals, ensuring learning is not just an afterthought but a strategic, empowering tool for growth.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Learning is everywhere, and it’s something we engage with daily—whether in the workplace, through professional development, or even in personal growth. My goal with EdTechEducate is to help businesses and individuals harness the power of learning in a way that is strategic, engaging, and effective.

If you’re a business owner struggling with onboarding an LMS or creating training that actually works, or if you’re someone looking to break into education technology and need guidance on building a strong portfolio, I’d love to connect. You can find me sharing insights on Instagram at EdTechEducate or reach out to discuss how we can work together.

The art and science of learning are what drive me, and I’m always excited to help others unlock their potential through better learning experiences.
