Today we’d like to introduce you to Colebain
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I got my start at the first sound of music. It did something to my soul I couldn’t explain. I became obsessed with how all of these different sounds came together to make this masterpiece we so commonly call a song lol. Who would I be, how do I go about carving out my sound? And so I started out like a lot of people and I copied my favorite producers in the beginning. Its the saying, “Don’t try to reinvent the wheel.” But as a producer your sound is just that, reinventing things to make something unique and stands out from the rest.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The first struggle was figuring out who I was and the space I would take up in this world we call music. I love all aspects of music but what would be my sound? The second thing I struggled with was the notion of my work in progress being good enough or at least good enough to me to release to the world. I compared my creations to the hot producer or my favorites every time I heard something new from them and trust me that is not a great place to live in lol. Third I struggled with making things hoping people would like it instead of making what I like and feels good to me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a music producer and an artist that’s trying to take the limits off my title. I specialize in boom bap but a also make everything under the Sun or I try to dabble in everything. I think at this point I’m known for that soul sound with a groove you can get lost in. I pride myself on the fact that I don’t force anything I create. If it doesn’t hit my soul then I don’t create it. I am most proud of my constant growth. I have now released 17 baintapes and 5 full projects and no signs of stopping anytime soon.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
This answer may be a little short but anywhere i can listen to music lol. I also go back and watch the greats and try to understand certain techniques they used.
