Conversations with Corey Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Corey Brown.

Hi Corey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Until I met my girlfriend, Avery, I really wasn’t interested in film or media at all; I wanted to be a drummer. I honestly had only watched movies with family or in passing. However, in 2016, when she introduced me to movies and kind of forced me to watch the ones she enjoyed, I was obsessed with the medium. A few months later, a couple of friends of mine were out, and I was always the one taking the pictures since I’m not super photogenic, and one of them said, “You’re basically a photographer” Since then, I was pretty certain that filmmaking and photography were part of me. From then on, whenever someone saw me, I had a camera in my hand. Now the story is more or less the same; I’m still working every day as a photographer and filmmaker to make that the only thing I have to do because that’s really the only thing I want to do. I’m more invested in the editing/VFX part of the process but want to be as well-rounded as possible. Meeting the guys at Arts Untitled, ZebraTail, and the music artists I met early on, such as TDenzellT, Shizzysix, RUBBiE, and the Dirt Dawgz, they’ve always supported and encouraged me that this is my calling and to quell any doubts I had about another option career-wise.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The path has always been rough because of my experience with imposter syndrome and my inability to see or even know if there is a correct path to follow to reach my end goal. There’s been a million obstacles as far as money and making everything work and having time to really put in the work I want to, but where there’s a will there’s a way, and I’ve always been adamant that this is what I need to do, and I’m going to work and work and work because I really love what I do.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in editing and visual effects. I guess I’m known for having a certain look and touch to the work that others have told me they can see when they open a video that I had my hands in it. I think what sets me apart is my attention to detail and quality, being the best it can be if it’s at all possible.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is definitely hanging out with my late grandmother, Earnestine. Part of the reason I’m as sentimental about photography as I am is that I never thought to take pictures with her as a kid, so I really don’t have anything physical to look back at to remember her.
