Today we’d like to introduce you to Dany Prevost.
Hi Dany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I found an old refrigerator from the 1950s that I kept for years in the back of my garage in Quebec, Canada, and one day I had the idea of turning it into the front of a big truck. I made a bumper and installed some old wheels I had, and I thought that with a nice paint job it could look really cool! But I had trouble selling it in Quebec.
After a few years, my wife and I decided to move to Texas on an E2 visa. We went through the process and got a visa approved for two years. We were supposed to build a whole new business when we arrived in Texas, but it didn’t work out the way we wanted, so my wife said to me, “Why don’t you make another refrigerator like you did in Quebec to see if it can work here?” And I thought to myself, I have to do what I’m good at. I’ve been a car painter for several years, and I’ve also been a heavy vehicle and truck painter. I know my way around trucks because my father was a truck driver and my brother has his own company with logging trucks.
So, after making two demo refrigerators, we got our first order, then another, and so on… Our refrigerators are becoming more and more popular, and we are getting more and more orders. Our E2 visa was renewed last summer for five years, so we are expanding.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We had to make a name for ourselves here in the United States. There was no shortage of work in Quebec, but we arrived in a new country and had to start all over again. However, with patience and my expertise, I was able to make a place for myself.
Finding good employees!!!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve never considered myself an artist, but I’ve been drawing and airbrushing since I was a kid. And trucks have always been a part of me. I draw them in minute detail. I build refrigerators to my customers’ specifications. Each one has a story, and I’m blessed to be a part of it.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I like that it’s a small, family-oriented town like where I come from, and everyone is generous and willing to help us.
