Conversations with Denise Lewis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Lewis

Hi Denise, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got started with Mocca Makeup & Skincare by chance. I was using Mary Kay skincare products and had a reaction to it. I had blotches and light spots all over my face. I went to my classmate Kena Baccus-Williams and ask if she had anything that could fix my problem, She sold me the skincare set at a discount and instructed me on how to use the products. In less than 2 months, my skin problems cleared up completely. I was sold and believed in the products. I joined the team and became a consultant. Kena knew I really didn’t wear makeup because she did my makeup for our high school prom (Business & Management Center 1991). I purchased my kit and started attending the weekly training classes and realized that I had a natural talent for makeup and selling makeup. My main focus was skincare. I have been off and on with Mocca for 18 years. Currently, I am an active consultant. One of the highlights of my makeup career was when I was featured on Luther Campbell’s reality show Parental Advisory as the makeup artist for his wedding in 2008. I also started my jewelry company in 2010 (Diva Looks Fashion Accessories). I wanted to add to the makeup and jewelry was the natural additive. I handcraft earrings using a variety of mediums such as wood, clay, beads, leather, denim and other fabrics. I currently do a variety of Pop Up vendor events to get my brand exposure as well as Mocca. I expanded my business again about 4 years ago. I have always baked, but when I lost my Mom in 2020, I started back because it was more therapeutic for me. Diva Taste is a variety of baked goods and snacks that I create and bake. I bake a variety of cookies (Banana Pudding Cookies, Butterscotch Chocolate Chip, Teacakes, Brookies), nuts (Sweet & Spicy, Amaretto, Bourbon, Chocolate Covered, Candied), Butter Toffee pretzels, cakes (Sour Cream Pound Cake, Lemon Pound Cake, Snickerdoodle, Cheesecakes), popcorn (Twix, Cookies & Cream, Butterfinger, Dill Pickle, Crown Apple) and liquor infused lollipops.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Jobs have been a struggle recently. It takes money to make money. When I make sales, I try to put it back into my business.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Currently, I am working a temporary assignment. The company is First American and I handle mortgages. I prep mail and emails and print out documents and sort accordingly. I would prefer a work from home job where I had more flexibility and do more work for my business.

What matters most to you? Why?
Happiness matters most to me. I want and need to be happy in whatever I do. If I’m not happy, what’s the point.
