Today we’d like to introduce you to Destini Watts.
Hi Destini, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my food blog journey during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, I was consistently going around my college town of Denton and the big DFW area trying new restaurants with my friends. It’s always exciting getting to experience new things with the people you enjoy spending the time with most. A couple of my friends really pushed me to start a food blog but at the time I was very nervous and unsure if I could actually create one. Around the end of May 2020, I decided to take a leap of faith and start my foodie journey with the constant support of my friends. When I first began my journey, I focused on Black businesses in the DFW area that were hit hard during the shutdown. Since beginning my blog, I have branched out trying and posting about a multitude of different businesses.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I personally don’t think that any journey has a smooth road to success and there will always be bumps and hiccups along the way. A couple of my struggles were juggling my food blog with a job and being a full-time student and the pandemic. Trying to post consistently and try new places when you have a hectic work schedule and school work. I really started to prioritize my different tasks throughout my semester so I could still post consistently on my food blog. With the pandemic, it really limited in-person eating and hours of restaurants making it extremely difficult to work around my busy schedule.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have just graduated from the University of North Texas with my Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations. One of my main goals are to help others in any way that I can, and I would love to do this through event planning. One day I plan to start my own event planning business focused around food and networking Such as wine tasting classes, cooking classes, restaurant etiquette, and networking events hosted at local restaurants in the area. It’s great to be able to network with the people around you and even better with food or drinks present.
