Conversations with DFW Adventures

Today we’d like to introduce you to DFW Adventures. They and their team shared their story with us below:

DFW Adventures didn’t come into flourishing until Michela and I (Junior) became acquainted. We quickly realized that we both had an extraordinary passion for art and a mutual appreciation for small business owners that derived from our past. The idea was born as just that, an idea, but it soon turned into this amazing project that we hope develops into something that helps our communities here in DFW. In the near future, we will be working more in-depth with several small business owners in hopes of creating a beneficial community where they can exchange ideas and collaborate with like-minded people. Our metroplex has an abundance of forgotten neighborhoods and businesses that deserve to be explored and brought back to life. We hope others will join us along this journey.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Every journey is unique, and it’s the challenges we face along the way that shape us. For us, time has been the most significant hurdle we’ve encountered thus far. With both of us juggling demanding full-time jobs, finding time to work on our side projects has been a constant struggle. However, we refuse to let this hold us back. We’ve devised a strategy to combat this issue by carving out a few dedicated days each week to collaborate on ideas and tackle our projects head-on. Additionally, we’re thrilled to have recently partnered with a marketing company to handle our edits, which will provide us with more free time to focus on our passions.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Michela:

Art has always played a significant role in my life, and it all began with dancing at a young age and exploring different forms of art until I found (my passion) for graphic design and the digital arts. I believe it is my passion that sets my work apart from others. This passion pushes me outside my comfort zone, from pencil on paper to digital design, social media, and website design. Throughout my career, I have accomplished several achievements that I am particularly proud of. Notably, being featured in magazine interviews, working for reputable marketing and content creation agencies with prominent brands, and having ads published in D CEO magazine have been significant milestones. I can now include this fantastic website that I have co-created. I take pride in having graduated early and beginning my career at a young age, which has provided me with a unique perspective and invaluable experience. Over the years, I have established myself as someone who works efficiently and effectively, always ready to take on new challenges and find innovative solutions.

Junior:

This is an interesting question as I find myself in a unique position as a microbiologist who also has a deep passion for art. Although the world of microbiology is probably one of the furthest fields from art, my love for art dates back to my childhood. I have always struggled with my decision to leave art behind in pursuit of a science degree where I could work in the animal medical field. My love for the sciences is absolute, but it was my incredibly talented friend and co-creator, Michela, who pushed me to consider a change of direction. After more than five years in the field of science, I am beginning my path to becoming certified in UX/UI design. I believe my background in science is what sets me apart, as it has trained me to break down everything and pay attention to minute details. This website and the vision behind it are what drive me to pursue this new path.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Networking is an important part of success and the best advice I can give when networking is to be genuine, honest, and open-minded. Make sure to listen to what people have to say and demonstrate your interest in them and what they do. Don’t be afraid to reach out and make connections; you never know who you might meet and the opportunities it might lead to. A platform like LinkedIn or ADP can be a great resource to discover individuals with the expertise and knowledge you seek. Additionally, you may want to explore the possibility of reaching out to your existing professional network, such as colleagues or former professors, for guidance and recommendations. Networking is all about building relationships and connecting with people, so take the time to get to know them and stay in touch. A mentorship journey can also prove to be a game-changing experience. It’s crucial to connect with someone who possesses the skills and experience you aspire to gain.
