Today we’d like to introduce you to Diamond/Simon Flores.
Hi Diamond/Simon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In high school my school only offered a theatre program, so at the time I focused on that even though what I truly wanted was to do film. Around my junior year I met my best friend Sonia! She was also interested in film so we started making films together. Often having me write, producing, and acting in the films. After that I started to be discovered by local filmmakers and integrated into the Dallas film community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been easy, especially with work and life balance. Since I’m still young, sometimes I forget I’m not supposed to always be GO GO GO. For a long time I stage managed theatre shows which was very stressful to manage with film as well. I was always on the go as my days started fading into one another. It was hard and it was the same routine I’ve had since before graduating school. Finding ways to break out of the constant cycle is hard but also out of all the problems in the world I’m grateful to have this one.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Jack of All Trades, and find that people know me for very different things. Some know me as a stage manager, others as an actress, a writer, content creator, producer, production designer, makeup artist, an PA and/or a director. I would say my main love is for acting, making my own content and writing my own films.
I am currently most proud of my upcoming film “You, Me, and The Zombies” a sapphic zombie film, that I plan to enter into festivals. As well as my ghost show called “The Lurkers” uploading on my YouTube Channel Every Week of October.
I feel as though I have a unique voice and drive to “JUST DO IT” no matter the circumstances. I started out with no connections and an I phone camera to working with filmmakers and creatives all around DFW.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My life motto is “JUST DO IT.” Seriously be as delusional as you can be while also remaining logical about what you have and using it to your advantage. Many filmmakers starting out wait for other people to hand them their chance. Well, I don’t and I never did. Every door, every opportunity, I worked my way to getting by finding ways to make connections, creating my own projects, building my image in order to work with the people I used to look up to. Making my goals higher and higher. Don’t wait for a chance, make it.
Starting out, I wish I knew truly how easy it is to get into the community if you set aside your fears and just go for it. Legit everyone is looking for crew, or actors for their projects.
