Conversations with Dolores Tellez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dolores Tellez.

Dolores, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It started at a young age, my aunt was a baker and I have always used baking as a stress release. Watching her bake and the reactions her customers would have after they tasted her cakes was amazing. D’Delicias really took off when my uncle passed away on Thanksgiving 2020 due to complication from COVID. I couldn’t stop baking throughout the whole grieving period, if it wasn’t for him and his words, telling me that there is more to life than working a 9 – 5, this business would not have happened or be where I am without them.

My family has also been super supportive and amazing. They go along with all of my crazy ideas! Couldn’t do it without them.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
By no means has this been a smooth ride. My biggest struggle is the back end of the business, the accounting, social media, invoicing, basically everything, but the baking. Most don’t consider all of this takes time, especially when you are the only one doing it all.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work is working at State Farm as an underwriting assistant, my passion has become baking. I love baking because it takes you out of your head and I use it as a way to relax. It started as a hobby, that was used as a coping mechanism, which then turned to what you see today.

This is definitely a marathon, a fun one!

What’s next?
I plan on expanding and hopefully making this a full-time passion. I do love participating in different events on a weekly basis and meeting new people. I do see myself growing, but only the future will tell where exactly I go from here.
